Background screenings

All drivers in Alberta are required by regulation to pass an annual background screening, which includes a review of your driving record and criminal history.

To drive with Uber in Alberta, you must provide an annual 3-year Standard Driver Abstract.

• The document must be uploaded to Uber within 30 days of its issue date.
• You can request your abstract at any Alberta Registry Agent location or online via the Alberta eServices website.
• You will be charged a fee for this service; this is not reimbursed by Uber.
• Once you have your abstract, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app

To drive with Uber in Alberta, you must provide an annual Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).

• To obtain your criminal record check, you can visit your local police department or request it online. VSC documents must be submitted to Uber within 60 days of the issue date.
• You will be charged a fee for this service; this is not reimbursed by Uber.
• Once you receive your document, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app

To drive with Uber in British Columbia, you must pass an annual background screening, which includes a review of your driving record and criminal history.

You must provide a commercial driving record from ICBC, indicated by an “N” on the top of the document. On the ICBC website, ensure that you check the box for “Commercial Driving Record (National Safety Code abstract)”.

• Ensure your document is clearly marked with a large "N" at the top.
• You can request your driving record online through the ICBC website, or by visiting an ICBC driver licensing office in person.
• The document must be submitted to Uber within 30 days of the document’s issue date.
• Once you receive your document from ICBC, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app

To drive with Uber in British Columbia, you must provide an annual Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS). In British Columbia, you have two options to provide your PIC-VS:

Option 1: Online Screening

Most drivers complete their screening quickly and securely online via our vendor, Triton. Once your driver's licence and profile picture has been uploaded and approved, you'll receive a link from Triton, our trusted background screening partner. Check the Background Check section of the Documents Hub in your Uber App or your email (including spam) for a link from Triton to begin this process. The screening will take 3 – 5 days to process and your results will be automatically uploaded to your profile. If you need assistance with your application, you can reach Triton at ubersupport@tritoncanada.ca or 1-844-874-8667 for further guidance.

Option 2: Provide Your Own Documents

If you prefer to obtain your own screening, you must provide Uber Support with your Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS).

Please note:

• The document must be submitted to Uber within 365 days of the document’s issue date.
• To obtain your criminal record check, you must visit your local police department or RCMP detachment.
• Once you have received your document, please contact Uber Support to upload the document for review.
• New and existing drivers must pass a background screening every calendar year.

To drive with Uber in Winnipeg, local laws require that you pass an annual background screening, which includes: a MPI Drivers Abstract, a Police Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, and a Child Abuse Registry application.

You must provide a current driving record from Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI).

• Complete the Driver Abstract Request Form and bring it to any MPI Service Centre. See here for a list of MPI Service Centre locations.
• The document must be submitted to Uber within 90 days of the document’s issue date.
• Once you receive your abstract, upload this to your Documents Hub.

In Winnipeg, all criminal history screenings must include a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3). You can complete the Electronic Police Information Check (ePIC) directly through the Winnipeg Police Service. Ensure you select the option for a Vulnerable Sector Search.

• Online applications typically take approximately 1 week to process.
• The document must be submitted to Uber within 90 days of the document’s issue date.
• Once you receive your document, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app

All drivers in Winnipeg are required to apply for the Adult and Child Abuse Registry.

• Complete the application on the Province of Manitoba’s website.
• You have 90 days to submit your completed application after your account is activated. Applications can take 4–6 weeks to process. To avoid any interruptions to your account access, we recommend submitting your application as early as possible.
• The document must be submitted to Uber within 90 days of the document’s issue date.
• Once you receive your document, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app

To drive with Uber in Newfoundland and Labrador, provincial regulations require you to pass an annual background screening, which includes a review of your driving record and criminal history.

Option 1: Online Screening

Most drivers complete their screening quickly and securely online via our vendor, ISB. Once your driver's licence and profile picture has been uploaded and approved, you'll receive a link from ISB, our trusted background screening partner. Check the Background Check section of the Documents Hub in your Uber App or your email (including spam) for a link from ISB to begin this process. Option 2: Provide Your Own Documents

If you prefer to obtain your own screening, you must provide your Driver Abstract (can be obtained online through the MyGovNL portal) and a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC).

Please note:

• Both documents must be submitted to Uber within 30 days of the document’s issue date.
• Your local police department may charge a fee for this service.
• Once you have received your document, please contact Uber Support to upload the document for review.

New and existing drivers must pass a background screening every calendar year.

To drive with Uber in Halifax, city by-laws require you to pass an annual background screening, which includes a review of your driving record, a criminal history check, and a child abuse register search.

You must provide a driving abstract from the Nova Scotia Registry of Motor Vehicles.

• You can request your abstract in person at any Access Nova Scotia location or by mailing/faxing a request form to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
• The document must be submitted to Uber within 30 days of the document’s issue date.
• There is a fee for this service; which is not reimbursed by Uber.
• Once you receive your abstract, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app

To drive with Uber in Halifax, you must provide an annual Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).

• To obtain your Vulnerable Sector Check, you can either apply in-person at a Halifax Regional Police location between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. or complete the process online through the official Halifax website.
• Please download the Uber VSC request letter here, as the Halifax Regional Police may require a formal letter from your organization to process any Vulnerable Sector Check.
• The document must be submitted to Uber within 90 days of the document’s issue date.
• Once you receive your document, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app

All drivers in Halifax are required to provide a search confirmation from the Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register.

• You can apply for a Child Abuse Register search online through the Province of Nova Scotia website.
• Once you receive your document, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app.

To drive with Uber in Ontario, you must pass an annual background screening, which includes a review of your driving record and criminal history.

Option 1: Online Screening

New and existing drivers must pass a background screening every calendar year.

Additional One-Time Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

In addition to the CRJMC and 3 Year Driver Record Search, Ottawa requires a one-time Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3). Vulnerable Sector Checks must be completed by your local police service, which can be obtained from the Ottawa Police Service, RCMP or other police department in Ontario in the area where you live.

When applying for a Vulnerable Sector Check, a police service may require you to provide a letter from the agency or organization requesting the check. If needed, download the Uber Ottawa VSC request letter here.

Submitting your VSC:

If you’ve received a paper document, take clear photos of the front and back of the document and upload them to the "Vulnerable Sector Check" slot in your Uber Driver app. If you’ve received your document via email, upload the PDF file to the Vulnerable Sector Check [FRONT]” document slot in your Uber app. The document must be submitted to Uber within 90 days of the document’s issue date.

Note: New and existing drivers must pass an annual background screening every calendar year, but the VSC is a one-time requirement.

Additional Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

In addition to the CRJMC and 3 Year Driver Record Search, City of Windsor bylaws require an annual Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3). Vulnerable Sector Checks must be completed by your local police service, which can be obtained from the Windsor Police Service, RCMP or other police department in Ontario in the area where you live. Submitting your VSC:

If you’ve received a paper document, take clear photos of the front and back of the document and upload them to the "Vulnerable Sector Check" slot in your Uber Driver app. If you’ve received your document via email, upload the PDF file to the Vulnerable Sector Check [FRONT]” document slot in your Uber app. The document must be submitted to Uber within 30 days of the document’s issue date. You will need to pass this VSC every year due to City by-laws.

To drive with Uber in Quebec, you must pass an annual background screening, which includes a review of your driving record and criminal history.

Option 1: Online Screening

Once your driver's licence and profile picture has been uploaded and approved, you'll receive a link from ISB, our trusted background screening partner. Check the Background Check section of the Documents Hub in your Uber App or your email (including spam) for a link from ISB to begin this process. Option 2: Provide Your Own Documents

If you prefer to obtain your own screening, you must provide your Driver Abstract (can be obtained online through SAAQ) and a Judicial Record for Remunerated Passenger Transportation by Automobile obtained from a local police department.

• The document must be submitted to Uber within 90 days of the document’s issue date.
• Your local police department may charge a fee for this service.
• Once you have received your documents, please contact Uber Support to upload the document for review. New and existing drivers must pass a background screening every calendar year.

There are different screening requirements for Regina and Saskatoon based on their municipal by-laws. For both cities, you must pass an annual background screening, which includes a review of your driving record and criminal history.

Option 1: Online Screening

Please note: The online screening includes a Criminal Record Check, not a Vulnerable Sector Check.

• Your local police department may charge a fee for this service.
• Once you have received your document, please contact Uber Support to upload the document for review.

Additional One-Time Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

In addition to the Criminal Record Check and Saskatchewan Driver's Abstract from SGI, Saskatoon requires a one-time Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3). Vulnerable Sector Checks must be completed by your local police service, which can be obtained from the Saskatoon Police Service, RCMP or any police department in Saskatchewan where you reside.

To obtain your criminal record check, you must visit your local police department or RCMP detachment. Local police services charge a fee for this screening; which is not reimbursed by Uber. The document must be submitted to Uber within 30 days of the document’s issue date. Once you receive your document, upload this to the Documents Hub in your Uber app

New and existing drivers must pass a background screening every calendar year.
