What is required
The following documents are required for rideshare drivers in British Columbia.
Class 1, 2, or 4 driver's licence
BC drivers need a valid Class 1, 2, or 4 licence in order to drive with Uber. To receive a Class 4 licence, you must pass a knowledge test, a road test, and a medical exam.
If you're uploading an interim licence, please include a government-issued photo ID (e.g. BC services card, passport) in the same photo to verify your identity.
Canadian proof of work
Must be 21+ years of age. Valid documents include: Canadian passport, birth certificate, citizenship card, residency card, or work permit. Cannot be expired.
Safety screening
Once you've uploaded your Class 1, 2, or 4 driver's licence, you'll receive an email from Triton, our trusted background screening partner. The email will contain a link to your free background screening, which can be completed online.

Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Registration
Be sure to include all 4 corners of the document.
The vehicle is not required to be registered under your name. Uber is working with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) to maintain insurance coverage on behalf of rideshare drivers. See details here.
ICBC Commercial Driving Record
Request your Commercial Driving Record from ICBC online. Once you've received your commercial driving record, upload it to your profile within 30 days.
If you have less than 3 years of driving experience in BC but have driven elsewhere, please submit your ICBC abstract and out-of-province abstract here.
Commercial Vehicle Inspection
Your vehicle must pass a commercial vehicle inspection by an approved inspection facility. Upon passing, you’ll receive a Commercial Vehicle Inspection Report.
Ensure that your Commercial Vehicle Inspection Report is in your vehicle at all times when you're driving on the Uber platform.

Tell us a little about yourself and your car by creating a driver profile.
2. Share some documents
Next, upload photos of the required documents to your driver profile. Don't forget to complete your online safety screening.
3. Start earning
Once your documents are approved, download the Uber Driver app to start earning on your schedule.
Documents to keep in your car
City bylaw regulators may request rides at any time to conduct vehicle and document inspections.
Be sure to keep the following documents in your vehicle when driving with Uber:
- Driver's licence
- Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Registration
- Commercial Vehicle Inspection Report
