Geeti Oberoi’s journey from She++ attendee to Uber Software Engineer
October 16, 2023 / GlobalTell us about yourself.
“I’m currently working at Uber as a Software Engineer on our Trip Operations Platform team. I’ve graduated from BITS Pilani where I pursued Bachelors of Engineering in Computer Science and Masters in Economics. I’ve had the privilege of working as an UberSTAR Intern during summer 2021 and as a Software Engineer Intern during Summer 2022. Having had amazing internship experiences here, I’m grateful to continue my journey with Uber and look forward to a great learning experience. A few of my technical interests include problem solving, exploring new programming languages, and creating websites of my own. I’ve been an active member of coding societies at my university. My experience there has made me realize my interest in initiating, solving, and managing new projects.”
What did your journey to Uber look like?
“My journey to Uber began with the Uber She++ event. A few months after this networking event, I received an invitation to apply for the UberSTAR internship for the summer of 2021. After successfully clearing a couple of coding rounds, I was thrilled to learn that I had been selected. Soon enough, I found myself collaborating with exceptionally bright minds and learning how development happened at scale in companies like Uber. This experience was incredibly enriching and gave me a taste of the dynamic work culture at Uber. It gave me a new perspective, an unforgettable experience and tons of things to learn in a short span of time.
Upon completing the internship, I was extended the opportunity to return for the following summer. Given the outstanding experience of my initial internship, I eagerly accepted the role of Software Engineer Intern in the summer of 2022.
Following my second internship, I was fortunate enough to receive a full-time position as a Software Engineer on the Trip Operations Platform team. It has been an exhilarating transition, evolving from a participant in the She++ event to becoming an integral member of the team. I’m eager to continue growing with this amazing group of professionals.”

“My experience was truly amazing. Meeting the leaders at Uber and engaging in the fireside chat provided deep insights. Despite the event being conducted online due to the pandemic, the Uber team ensured that we could experience the corporate world through the lens of passionate tech enthusiasts at Uber. We also had the opportunity to interact with the alumni from our university to get to know their experience working at Uber.
Numerous games and breakout sessions were thoughtfully organized for us to network and broaden our horizons. I was particularly impressed by how everyone involved was so driven to make us fall in love with the world of tech.
The projects and initiatives back then sounded interesting enough to convince me to pursue a career in Software Development and to be able to contribute to the fast growing field of tech in my own innovative ways. The program gave me the right mindset and thought process early on which enabled me to reach where I’m today.”
Why did you make the decision to accept a full-time offer after the program?
“I chose to accept the internship and later the full-time offer with Uber for several compelling reasons. Firstly, during my internship, I was thoroughly impressed by Uber’s innovative and dynamic work environment. The projects I worked on were challenging and impactful, which motivated me to continue contributing to Uber’s mission.
Furthermore, the mentorship and learning opportunities provided during the internship were invaluable. I felt supported and encouraged to explore new technologies and grow as a professional. This made me confident that a full-time position at Uber would be an excellent platform for my career development.
Additionally, Uber’s commitment to cutting-edge technology and its impact on the global transportation industry resonated with my own professional aspirations. I saw an opportunity to not only work on exciting projects but also be part of a team that was pushing boundaries and shaping the future of mobility.
Lastly, the camaraderie and collaborative spirit among the teams at Uber were inspiring. I felt a strong sense of belonging and knew that I wanted to be a part of this vibrant community.
All these factors combined made it an easy decision for me to accept the internship and later the full-time offer with Uber. I’m excited to continue contributing to Uber’s success and be part of its journey towards even greater achievements.”

“I’m currently a frontend engineer in the Trip Operations Platform, and it’s been an enriching three months. I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredibly supportive team that prioritizes my growth and helps me overcome any challenges. Our current project involves developing labeling tools, a crucial step in generating data for training ML models. As we venture into technologies, I’m thrilled to contribute to our expanding team. While my previous internships were backend-focused, this experience has opened my eyes to the exciting opportunities in the frontend world. I’m eager to make the most of this chance and continue learning and growing.”
What role do you play for She++ today?
“Having been a participant in the She++ program before starting my internship at Uber, I truly understand the transformative power it holds in championing diversity and inclusion in tech. Looking ahead, I aspire to play an even more hands-on role in the She++ program. This might involve personally mentoring and supporting fellow women in tech, sharing the unique insights I’ve gained on my own journey, and contributing to initiatives that amplify gender diversity in our field. I’m genuinely excited about the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and be a part of this positive change.”
Any tips for aspiring She++ applicants and interns?
“Having recently gone through the process, I understand the anxiety it can bring. My advice is to invest in yourself by continually learning new things instead of dwelling on uncertainties. There are tons of opportunities out there and you’ll be fine as long as you’re growing by learning. Also, make sure to network enough to not miss opportunities like these.
For new interns, I’d say that even if things feel intimidating and overwhelming at first, proactively choose it and give your best to make it happen, and everything else will automatically fall in place. The tech world is vast, and trying to master everything at once is impractical. Instead, focus on fully understanding the niche you’re currently working in. Gaining a thorough understanding of your projects or work is invaluable and provides an added advantage.”
