In August 2015, Boston launched a new carpooling option in limited areas within the city. A year later, uberPOOL has grown to account for over 30% of all greater Boston Uber trips and is widely available from Andover to Foxborough to Martha’s Vineyard. Over the past year, uberPOOL has saved riders over $22 million dollars and has facilitated over 6.4 million shared miles among riders.
With the success and popularity of the product, uberPOOL expanded across the Boston area. Today, it is available as far east as Salem, as far north as Andover, as far west as Marlborough, and as far south as Bridgewater. This more affordable option has provided riders with more transportation options and has allowed even more people the freedom and access to get around our community.
In the summer of 2016, uberPOOL was also piloted in a few of Massachusetts’ smaller communities, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. This marked the first time that uberPOOL has been available outside of a large metropolitan area and allowed even more riders on these islands access to an affordable ride.
Across all these Massachusetts towns cities, and islands, opting to share uberPOOL rides has saved 2.2 million miles and over 53,600 gallons of fuel in the past year alone. Our journey together has just begun, and we’re look forward to seeing what 2017 has in store.
