Uber-community voor verzorgers en medewerkers met een beperking
Our mission is to strengthen and sustain Uber’s diversity and inclusion efforts for employees living with and supporting those with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities.
Ensure equal opportunity for people with disabilities to consider joining Uber. Develop new resources and increase awareness of existing benefits for current and new employees who might have a disability.
Listen to, learn from, and engage with external experts to strengthen Uber’s product and inclusion efforts for individuals with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities.
To support Uber’s goal of making transportation more accessible to people with disabilities, we’re committed to helping our rider and driver product, user research, and comms/policy teams build solutions that can help everyone move around their community.
Build and scale our strategic initiatives and advocacy work across our regional chapters all over the world.
Tax Coordinator
Coming from a Big 4 tax audit background, I joined Uber Brazil’s Tax team in February 2017. I have family members who have physical disabilities, and also I have worked with people with disabilities in the past. I have always felt inspired by their determination on overcoming challenges I never realized existed. Helping Uber become a more inclusive company to the PWD [people with disabilities community], first in Brazil and now in LatAm, has been an honor and an amazing experience.
Art Director
I joined the Uber Design team in November 2016 as the second designer in India. My passion for Able at Uber comes from my personal experiences. I had lost the vision in my left eye at a very early age and went through a very difficult time. I felt very limited in many ways, especially while I saw choosing a career in design. But with time I was able to overcome this, and today I feel immensely blessed that I design for an iconic brand like Uber.
Program Manager, External Tools
I joined Uber in August 2017, coming from SurveyMonkey, where I was a Diversity and Inclusion ERG Lead. I moved to the Netherlands having just had spinal surgery and was recovering from being temporarily paralyzed. As I struggled with mobility for the first time in my life, I noticed things like if there was an elevator in each building I visited, or if the bathroom was accessible or not. When I discovered the Able at Uber ERG, I immediately joined. I saw an opportunity to improve accessibility not only for myself, but for everyone at Uber.
Operations and Logistics Manager
I joined Uber in March 2015, first on the Driver Ops team and now on the Rider Ops team, focusing on everything from engagement to product. I’m a San Francisco native living in Sydney and one of the APAC leads for Able at Uber. The mission of Able at Uber is close to my heart, particularly mental health and physical accessibility. We are builders and creators, so Able at Uber also plays an important role in bringing accessibility to the forefront of peoples’ minds to ensure that we’re building and creating an inclusive tech experience.
Accounts Receivables Manager
I joined Uber in January 2018 as the APAC AR Manager for Uber for Business. I am based out of Hyderabad, India, although originally from Mumbai. Making accessibility a daily norm became a passion during my college years when I wrote exams for students with sight impairment. Despite being talented, it was a daily challenge for them to perform routine tasks, I observed, due to the indifference of our infrastructure and society in general. I am proud to be associated with Able at Uber to help bridge these gaps and create a more inclusive society!
Uber Eats Operations Manager, Melbourne
I joined Uber in 2018 and quickly found myself at home in the Able at Uber employee resource group. I’m constantly inspired by the purpose and passion our group delivers. I particularly enjoy creating frameworks for inclusive and accessible workplaces. A recent highlight for me has been extending live-captioning in meetings to increase participation options for colleagues. I would highly encourage anyone to look at employee resource groups as a member or leader as a way to be a diversity champion.
Content Coordinator
After working in customer support at Apple on products like VoiceOver and FaceTime, I began to understand the big impact small changes can have on the daily lives of people living with disabilities. When I joined Uber in 2016, I experienced first-hand Uber’s commitment to ensuring that members of the disabled community aren’t left behind in spite of technology’s incredibly fast pace. As someone who has struggled with anxiety and depression, I’m super motivated to help educate fellow employees and their community about mental health.
Environmental Health and Safety Program Manager
I joined Uber in 2017 after working in various health and safety fields. My passion for Able at Uber derives from my education, personal values, and employment experience. My focus on disabilities developed when I was diagnosed with an eye disease in 2005 that resulted in a corneal transplant. I am proud and honored to have an opportunity to lead Able at Uber and support employees in any way possible.
Executive sponsor, Senior Director, GM, Western and Southern Europe
"Uber sits at a unique cross section of the digital and physical worlds. Our products have the ability to make the world more accessible and bridge gaps in transit (and food availability) that exist today, in communities around the world. However, we need to lean in more to our commitment to build for those with physical and mental disabilities, and I'm eager to push the company to do just that."
We continue to raise global awareness of existing counseling services and other established benefits for employees in partnership with HR, such as the employee assistance program, bereavement counseling, and local health coverage policies.
We sponsor wellness rooms for employees in San Francisco HQ and other regional offices for meditation, yoga, and well-being.
We engage with local experts and groups within the disability community—from skills-based volunteering to enlisting accessibility advisers—in order to help raise positive awareness internally and innovate on accessible solutions.
