Surge Version 2.0 has certainly had a huge effect on partner earnings.
Some fast facts from the past weekend:
- 38% of all trips surged between Saturday 5pm and Sunday 4am
- 90% of drivers who drove 20+ hours on the weekend made at the very least $756
- Top driver made $1,420 over the weekend (over $50/hour average)

Huge Earnings – Surge Version 2.0
- Certain surge regions are offering extremely high earnings, particularly in suburbs including Bardon, Paddington and New Farm. Surge was as high as 3.9x on Monday morning.
- Due to some cross river complexities, there are still some technical details we need to improve. At the moment, when you cross the river, you should go Offline and then back Online to refresh the Surge map on your phone.
- If you Go Online on the North side of the river, you will see the Northern Surge regions.

News in the World of Uber
Uber Doesn’t Fear the ATO.
The Brisbane Times reports of Uber’s plans to contest the ATO’s ruling regarding GST for driver partners, contending they “have been unjustly singled out by the ATO for different tax treatment than truck drivers, bike messengers, Airbnb hosts or any other participant of the sharing economy”.
NSW, Australian Govt Drops Charges Against 24 Uber Driver Partners.
The ABC reports that the Government in New South Wales, Australia has “withdrawn prosecutions against two dozen Uber drivers” because of “lack of evidence,” though officials reiterated that ride-sharing is still illegal. Uber celebrated the outcome, saying that “the people of Sydney are voting with their feet — almost 4,000 Sydneysiders are now earning a flexible income on the Uber platform” while “hundreds of thousands are choosing Uber to get around their city.”
Report: Lack Of Taxi Competition Costs Australians $40m A Year.
The ABC reports that a report by the Queensland, Australia Premier’s advisers on economic policy, the Economic Policy Group (EPG), found that “a lack of competition in the Brisbane taxi market” may be costing “consumers $40 million…each year,” while “Uber has increased competition in the Queensland taxi market, providing customers with the ability to choose an alternative to regular taxis.”
