Innovation is taking the for-hire transportation industry by storm and we’re excited to announce the latest launch of our ridesharing service, uberX, on Australia’s west coast.

Operating in over 100 cities worldwide, uberX has brought a safer and more affordable transportation option for consumers. It’s also brought higher earnings and flexible working hours for drivers. In short order, its become the most popular choice for Australian drivers and riders.

Over the past few months we have been working with Transportation Minister Dean Nalder and his Department to ensure that every uberX ride meets Western Australia’s safety requirements. The Minister has asked for and we have agreed that every uberX partner’s license must have an F-extension, which indicates they have passed the requisite criminal background, driver history, and medical checks before they hit the road.

In addition, every partner-driver will have compulsory third party insurance, backed by Uber’s contingent liability policy which covers every ridesharing trip up to USD $5M.

[Note since this article was published, Uber’s contingent liability policy has increased in cover to at least AUD$20,000,000.]

The Transportation Minister has displayed leadership by engaging in conversations with innovative companies about adopting new solutions to transportation issues in Western Australia. We look forward to moving forward with our discussions with his office on how innovation can improve drivers’ income and give riders a safer and more reliable transportation experience.
