uberX Commute Hourly Guarantees

We’ve been working hard to improve demand throughout the week. One initiative to spur weekday demand will centre around a rider promotion that went live last Monday. We’re expecting to see huge demand throughout the day – especially during the morning and evening commute.

HOW DO INCENTIVES WORK?

THE PROCESS

  • In the prior week, we will inform you of the periods in the following week during which you are can opt into minimum guaranteed gross fares.
    • You can opt in through the link provided in the email.
    • You have until Friday 25 November 4pm to opt into the incentive.
  • If you are online during the advertised periods and meet the requirements below, you are guaranteed the indicated minimum gross fares per hour.

INCENTIVES FOR THE WEEK

For the week starting Monday November 21 to Sunday November 27 the guarantees are the following:

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for guaranteed gross fare periods you have to:

  • Accept 75% of trip requests you receive across each incentive period;
  • Start at least 75% of your trips (3 out of 4) in the promotion zone (see highlighted area in map below) across each incentive period;
  • Complete an average of at least 1.5 trips per hour across each incentive period (equal to doing 3 trips every;
  • Keep an average rating of 4.7 across the week.

Eligibility is calculated per guarantee block. If for example a guarantee block runs from 7am to 10am, the above requirements are expected to be met over those 3 hours to be considered eligible for the incentive.

EXAMPLE

Here’s an example of how guaranteed gross fares work.

  • You are driving Tuesday from 6AM to 9AM ($30/hour in gross fares between 6AM and 9AM)

If you drive for 3 hours during this incentive period, we guarantee a total of $90 in gross fares (3 x $30). Let’s break it down, assuming your actual earnings are $75 in gross fares, and there is a 25% service fee:

Depending on your rate of commission, your guaranteed incentive payout for this period is either $12.00 or $11.25, which is added to your pay statement as a Miscellaneous Payment. On your statement the incentive payment will include a description of the requirements, your eligibility, and the total amounts guaranteed and paid.

Payments will always be made the week following the incentive period, and will be included on your regular weekly pay statement.

If you make more than the guaranteed amount, you keep between 70% and 75% of whatever you make!


A FEW THINGS TO NOTE

  • The guarantee is for gross fares (before Uber’s service fee).
  • The difference between your actual fares and any guaranteed fares will be reflected in the Miscellaneous Payments section of your weekly payment statement (you won’t see it on your phone during the week). This payment is not part of a fare and is in addition to the fare paid by the rider, instead it is a payment to you for satisfying promotion eligibility requirements.
  • Trips done using the driver destination functionality do not count towards your incentives.

FAQ

Question: Can I drive outside of the guarantee periods?

Answer: Yes! You can drive anytime you want. Outside the guarantee periods offered to you, you will receive 75% or 80% of all gross fares you earn.

Question: What if I make more than the incentive offered?

Answer: That’s fine! If you make more than the guaranteed amount you keep 75% or 80% of whatever you make!

Question: I was too late to opt into this incentive!

Answer: That’s ok! We’re likely to have more incentives on offer next week. Keep an eye on your email!
