NSW To Conduct Taxi Review

The ABC reports that NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance announced the formation of “an independent taskforce” to “review the state’s ‘point to point transport’ sector,” including taxis, hire cars, and Uber, and recommend “an adjustment package” to level the playing field among competitors and to “to put structures in place to stop people manipulating the system.” Foley, Leader of the New South Wales, Australia Labor Opposition, argues that the NSW government needs to engage with the sharing economy, which he says is “already big business,” because it can help ease capacity issues by utilising resources more efficiently. Foley notes that Uber “could dramatically ease congestion on NSW roads”.
