What’s on This Weekend

Here comes a massive weekend of outdoor festivities! The marathon will have plenty of people out and about. With school holidays on, there are plenty of holiday makers without cars too!

Do keep in mind a number of road closures from the marathon on both Saturday (Southport) and Sunday (Southport down to Burleigh Heads). Please see below map for more details.

Tips:

  • Southport and surrounding suburbs will be heavily congested with traffic.
  • Access across the course will be permitted under the direction of traffic controllers and police when deemed safe. There will be periods when the number of runners using the road restricts access.
  • Use roads west of the Gold Coast Highway such as Currumburra Rd, Benowa Rd & Wardoo St, Southport-Burleigh Rd when travelling north and south.

Task Force to Look at Uber and Taxi Industry in NSW

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the NSW government has launched a new task force to look at regulating the ride-sharing company Uber as part of a wider examination of the challenges facing the taxi industry. The move has been welcomed by the general manager of Uber Australia, who pledged active involvement in the inquiry.
