One Year of Uber Perth
It’s been one year since Uber started providing people with safer, more affordable and reliable rides in the most isolated city in the world, and what a year it’s been!
With this milestone, we wanted to look back at the local impact Uber has had in Perth.
In the first year since launch, our Uber driver-partners have provided over 700,000 trips, with an average arrival time of 4.9 minutes, helping make Perth a safer, more economically vibrant, and better connected place to live.
In the same amount of time, Uber has created over 1,500 flexible, well-paid jobs in Perth with 27% of our driver partners coming from the 20 suburbs of highest unemployment that need economic opportunity the most such as Gosnells, Girrahween and Hamilton Hill.
The typical Perth uberX driver partner works 20 hours a week and earns $2,500 per month, on average.
Our ridesharing platform uberX has also changed the way people earn a living in Perth, giving Perthians the chance to choose when they work, set their own shifts, and make decisions about their hours that fit into other work or family commitments. From full-time to part-time, single mother to retired veteran, our partners come from a broad range of backgrounds and we’re grateful to each of the 1,500+ driver partners who safely get people from A to B in Perth every day.
We’ve helped 50,000 people get home safely from Perth’s CBD on Friday and Saturday nights after midnight.
Uber’s also played a big role in making Perth’s streets safer. In our first year alone, Uber driver-partners have safely transported home over 50,000 people from the CBD and Northbridge on Friday and Saturday nights between 12am and 4am. That’s the equivalent of an entire Subi oval full of people safely taken home.
So where are all these people requesting rides from? The team at Uber have crunched the numbers and pinpointed the most popular Perth hotspots where the most pickups and drop-offs occur on Friday and Saturday nights.
- William St – Connies, The Bird, Mondo
- CBD – Bar Lafayette, Print Hall and Uncle Joes
- Subiaco – Village Bar, Juanita’s and The Subi Hotel
- Leederville – The Manor, The Good Shepherd, Greens & Co
- Other Areas – The Cott, Little Creatures and Crown Casino
Uber isn’t just for nights and weekends. People across Perth are using Uber to commute more easily to and from work by riding between their homes and local train stations.
Connecting people to existing transportation options helps make Perth more accessible for residents, commuters and tourists.
Encouragingly, while some use Uber to commute to or from work, or as a safe way to get home on a Friday or Saturday night, many locals in areas underserved by public transport use Uber as an affordable way to get to or from major transit routes, thereby complementing and extending Perth’s existing transport infrastructure.
Together, Perth riders have travelled 7,200,000km’s with Uber.

In the past year, Perth riders have enjoyed 1.7 tonnes of free mints, and over 400,000 litres of free water! We’ve delivered 100 on-demand gourmet lunches, 24 kitten snuggle sessions, 80 tubs of delicious Messina ice-cream and 51 supercar rides…
We’re proud of the positive impact we’ve had on the local job economy and in providing a safe, reliable and affordable choice to the people of Perth and we’re looking forward to being part of the fabric of the city for years to come.
Cheers to one year in Perth. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
