Why some customers might get charged before a trip
When you request a ride, Uber might charge the estimated upfront price of the trip on behalf of driver-partners depending on the card you select as the payment method. This will help ensure that sufficient funds are present to cover the service from the driver-partner.
Why am I being charged before a trip is completed?
To make sure your card has sufficient funds available to cover the cost of a trip, we might charge you the upfront price of a trip at the time of trip request.
What if the actual price ends up being less than the upfront price I was charged?
Your charge will be corrected to reflect the price at the end of your trip. We’ll always provide a refund for the difference between your upfront price and your actual price if the final price is less than the initial upfront price charged.
What if my trip gets canceled?
We understand that sometimes trips get canceled. We will always provide a full refund of the upfront price you were charged at the time you requested your trip even if you decide to cancel it, if your ride is canceled by a driver, and/or if your ride goes unfulfilled. However, If you cancel a trip, and you are charged a cancellation fee, this will not be included in the refund. The refund might take around 5-7 business days to process and is subject to vary depending on your bank issuer.
How long does it take to receive a refund?
Your refund should not take long to be reflected in your account. The average refund might take up to 7 business days, but that time period is subject to change depending on a customer’s card issuer.
What can I do if I don’t receive my refund after 7 business days?
If you have not received a refund after more than 7 business days after a charge, please contact your bank and provide the transaction details such as card number and transaction date.
