Today, Uber is excited to introduce a new product – People’s Uber, a non-profit ridesharing service that offers a new transportation option to even more riders and drivers. This is available now during our trial period in Beijing!

Uber’s mission has always been about moving people, which is why we created People’s Uber, a service created for the people of Beijing, powered by Uber technology.

People’s Uber and Beijing are a perfect match. In this cultural, political, and technology hub, Beijingers are at the forefront of new concepts such as sharing economy, scalable urbanization, and leveraging technology to improve quality of life. The Beijing government has also been forward-thinking in supporting over 20 million residents and 5 million cars on the rings and hutongs, through investments to reduce carbon emissions and progressive initiatives like encouraging ridesharing to reduce emissions and road congestion.

People’s Uber brings promising innovations fit for a city with Beijing’s scale. Using the same Uber app, riders can now share a car by opening the app, connecting with the driver to confirm their destination, and jumping in. Riders only cover the driver’s costs, so getting around town has never been so convenient and affordable. Drivers are fellow Beijingers vetted by Uber and rated by users after every trip. Route details are logged through Uber’s system, and cars are insured and licensed according to Beijing standards.

For riders and drivers alike this means more transportation options, especially when they need it most: during rush hours, peak holiday periods, and other times when most people are on the road and many along the same routes.
