Uber is a great way to be your own boss and make money. Most people are eligible to drive with Uber, even if you don't have a car. Here’s what you need to know if you’re driving anywhere in South Africa.
Get started
1. Sign up online
Got an email address and a smartphone? Great, now tell us a bit more about yourself and we'll get you started.
2. Complete your Safety Screening
Screenings can be done at most Post Net OR Jetline Stores or registered Huru/MIE capture partner.
- Driver needs to upload both pages of the HURU Safety Screening
- Driver needs to only upload 1 page of the MIE Safety Screening
*Safety screenings can also be completed at the evaluation centre.
3. Upload your documents
Time for some paperwork. There are some of the documents we need to see:
- A valid South African Professional driving permit (PrDP)
- You have to be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Provide a driver profile photo
- Safety Screening Certificate
5. Activate your account
If you've completed all the above steps, congratulations! You're ready to activate your account and start making money.
Competency test and screening sessions
How to complete your profile
At Uber, we see safety as one of the pillars of our services. To assure safety is maintained at all time, we have introduced various actions which provide safety to both our driver-partners and riders. One of these actions is requiring all driver-partners to pass an driving competency test and screening session.
Steps to complete
Receive an invite
After your PrDP has been approved, you will receive a email invitation within 48 hours to complete your driving competency test and screening session

Pay and complete
The cost of the driving competency test is R150 payable in cash before your appointment.
The driver-partner will only be allowed to complete a screening session if he/she passed the competency test.
The cost of the screening check is R150 payable in cash.
Points to remember
Take your ID / PrDP with for verification
Driving competency and screening checks will only take place on booked times
Do not refer driver-partners to the office. If you qualify you will receive an invitation
Driver-partners who show up without an invitation and booking will not be able to complete their competency test and will be shown away from the premises
The driver-partner will only be allowed to complete a screening session if he/she passed the competency test
Uber delivery services
Drivers 19 years of age and older may qualify for delivery services, like UberEATS and UberRUSH.
