Drive with confidence

You deserve to be able to go wherever the opportunity is. Get there with support on the road and technology that helps protect you and those around you.

Masks are no longer required

As of April 19, 2022, riders and drivers are not required to wear masks when using Uber. However, the CDC still recommends wearing a mask if you have certain personal risk factors and/or high transmission levels in your area.

Remember: many people still feel safer wearing a mask because of personal or family health situations, so please be respectful of their preferences. And if you ever feel uncomfortable, you can always cancel the trip.

Updating our no-front-seat policy

Riders are no longer required to sit in the back seat. However, to give you more space, we’re still asking that riders only use the front seat if it’s required because of the size of their group.

Thank you for helping take care of one another

We know the pandemic has been difficult. But you’ve continued to go the extra mile to help protect our communities—whether it’s wearing a mask, making space for one another, or helping people get the food they need. Thank you for that.

It’s still important to take safety precautions while driving and delivering. So make sure to roll down the windows for extra airflow, sanitize your hands before and after trips or deliveries, and always cover your cough or sneeze.

Designing a safer experience

Features to help keep you safe

The app is built with technology to help you stay connected to your loved ones, our team, and emergency authorities, so you can go even further.

Help if you need it

Specially trained incident response teams are available anytime right from the app.

An inclusive community

Through our joint efforts with cities and safety experts and by working together, we’re helping to create safe journeys for everyone.

Peace of mind, wherever you go

Safety is designed into the experience. So you feel comfortable driving at night. So you can tell loved ones where you’re going. And so you know you have someone to turn to if anything happens.*

Emergency assistance button

You can use the in-app emergency button to call authorities to get help if you need it. The app displays your location and trip details, so you can quickly share them with emergency services.

24/7 incident support

Uber customer associates trained in incident response are available around the clock.

Follow My Ride

Friends and family can follow your route and will know as soon as you arrive.

2-way ratings

Your feedback matters. Low-rated trips are logged, and users may be removed to protect the Uber community.

GPS tracking

All Uber rides are tracked from start to finish, so there’s a record of your trip if something happens.

RideCheck

Using sensors and GPS data, RideCheck can help detect if a trip has an unexpected long stop. If so, we'll check on you and offer tools to get help.¹

Verify Your Pin

You may need to enter a PIN from your rider before you can start a trip in the app. PIN verification helps make sure the right rider is getting into your car, and it allows both of you to travel with more peace of mind.

Coverage you can count on

Uber partners with leading insurance providers to help protect every trip.

Tips for smooth, safe pickups

Your safety is our top priority. That’s why we’re asking you and your riders to double-check all details before they step in, to ensure extra peace of mind right from the start.

Rider safety

Before the trip begins, riders are advised to check your car license plate number, make and model, as well as your driver photo and name.

Driver safety

You can ask riders to confirm your name too. You could ask, “Hi, who is your driver?” or “Can you please confirm my name? It should be displayed on your app.”

Safer roads for everyone, thanks to you

You play a key role in helping to make cities safer and roads friendlier to move around in.

Staying focused while driving

The app reminds you to take driving breaks if you approach the hourly limit set by your city.

Safety tips

Local laws and advice from law enforcement officials offer ways you can help make a big difference in your safety and that of the people around you. Read more safety tips here.

Strengthening our community

Uber’s Community Guidelines help riders and drivers enjoy a stress-free ride. Any person who doesn’t follow the guidelines may be at risk of being removed from the platform for the safety of the entire Uber community.
