Strengthening public transit
Helping to find a solution to first- and last-mile challenges extends the reach of public transit systems.
Riders can request a ride between 10pm and 4am, when public transit may run less frequently or is unavailable.
To help make your everyday commute easier, more transit apps from around the world will be available within the Uber app.
Caring for the climate
Innovative new products and features make it even easier for riders to share their journeys together. We’re collaborating with experts in the hybrid and electric vehicle field to understand how technology can help reduce carbon emissions.
Our goal for London is a big one: 100% hybrid or battery-electric cars for UberX. An extra fee of 15 pence per mile on every trip in London will go toward helping drivers update their vehicles.
EV Champions Initiative, our pilot program for drivers to complete at least 5 million electric vehicle (EV) rides in 2019, is currently in 7 cities. Riders in Austin, Los Angeles, Montreal, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle will be presented with EV notifications in the app when they are matched with an electric vehicle and may also receive materials during their rides about electric vehicles.
Fewer parking lots, happier cities
Ridesharing and easier access to public transit can reduce the need for parking lots.
Fortune, March 2016
A better understanding of how curbs are used can help cities around the world prepare for a future where more and more of us are accessing transportation through a combination of shared modes, rather than relying on our own vehicles.
Better data can mean better planning
Uber Movement provides data from over 2 billion trips to urban planners around the world. That critical data gives them more tools than ever to plan the cities of the future.
We partner with cities to respond to traffic emergencies, anticipate transportation needs, and improve policies, so that drivers and riders can breathe a little easier.
