Proposal to Establish a National WHS Committee in New Zealand
At Uber Eats, we believe safety is always a priority. We're committed to making sure every Delivery Person feels supported and listened to when it comes to health and safety.
We build safety into everything we do and are always looking for ways to make things safer for everyone using the Uber app. As part of this commitment, we're proposing to launch a New Zealand Uber Eats National Work Health and Safety (WHS) Committee. This would give Uber Eats a formal way to consult with Delivery People about health and safety matters.
Why have a National WHS Committee?
The proposed Committee would bring together Delivery People from across New Zealand to:
Share feedback and raise health and safety issues that matter most to Delivery People
Discuss new or emerging safety risks, trends, and ideas for improvement
Give input on policies, procedures, and changes that could affect health and safety
Uber Eats already has a similar committee in Australia that meets regularly and has helped deliver practical improvements in how Delivery People are supported. We're proposing to create the same opportunity in New Zealand so Delivery People can help shape how safety is managed locally.
Proposed Committee Structure
As part of this proposal, the Committee in New Zealand would include:
Two Health and Safety Representatives for metro 4-wheel Delivery People
One Health and Safety Representative for regional Delivery People (any vehicle type)
One Health and Safety Representative for 2-wheel Delivery People (any city)
Two Delivery Person Representatives from any region or vehicle type, selected with consideration for diversity across gender, race, sexuality, vehicle type, and location
In total, six Delivery People would be part of the Committee and four of these six members would be elected directly by Delivery People. This structure reflects the distribution of Delivery People in New Zealand and makes sure metro, regional, 4-wheel, and 2-wheel Delivery People all have a say.
Seeking Feedback from Active Delivery People in New Zealand
Before finalising the details of the proposed Committee, we're seeking feedback from active Delivery People who use the Uber Eats app in New Zealand.
We'd like to hear your thoughts on:
Whether a National WHS Committee would be useful for Delivery People in New Zealand
What its priorities should be
How Delivery People would like to be represented or involved
Active Delivery People in New Zealand have been sent more information about how they can share their thoughts on the proposal.
The proposed Uber Eats National WHS Committee doesn’t replace any existing safety processes or resources.
