Safeguarding Policy

Uber operates a rideshare platform in Australia and New Zealand that offers teens the opportunity to have an Uber account connected to their guardian with additional safety controls.

As part of our ‘Stand for safety’ company value, Uber is committed to ensuring the safety, wellbeing and security of all users on our platform – in particular, the young people who may come into contact with our services, directly or indirectly. We do not tolerate any form of abuse, neglect, exploitation or harm towards children.

Key components

Some key components of our child protection and safeguarding policy and practices include:

Commitment to safeguarding

Uber is dedicated to creating a safe environment for children. We acknowledge the role we can play in helping to protect children from potential harm that may arise during their interaction with our platform.

Prevention

To help ensure the safety of our users, we prioritise prevention measures and continuously invest in technology to promote safety on the platform. This includes robust screening checks for drivers and safety features specifically designed for teen accounts trips.

Awareness and education

All drivers and delivery people eligible to provide services to teen accounts have access to education modules tailored for their regional needs, including recognising signs of abuse, understanding reporting procedures and promoting safe interactions with children.

Clear reporting procedures

We provide clear guidelines and channels for reporting any concerns related to child protection and safeguarding. Any suspicion, allegation or incident involving child welfare is taken seriously and addressed promptly and with due sensitivity.

Zero tolerance

Uber does not tolerate child endangerment, abuse, exploitation or neglect, which constitute clear violations of our Community Guidelines.

Collaboration with authorities

Uber works closely with law enforcement agencies, child protection organisations and relevant authorities to address cases of child endangerment, abuse, exploitation or neglect effectively. We adhere to legal requirements, cooperate fully with investigations and may proactively engage on serious matters.

Continuous improvement

We continually review and enhance our policies and procedures to adapt to evolving risks. We actively seek feedback from stakeholders, including users and experts, and incorporate it into our approach.

By adhering to these principles and practices, Uber aims to create a safe and supportive environment for all children using our services.
