Frequently asked questions
What is the Autonomous Vehicle (AV) preference?
Uber customers in London who are excited about riding in an autonomous vehicle can increase their chances of being matched with a Wayve vehicle upon launch by opting in via the Ride Preferences section of their Uber app under Settings.
How are Wayve autonomous rides being operated in London?
A trained private hire driver is on board to help ensure a smooth journey. This service is operated under the Government’s Code of Practice for automated vehicle trials.
Will customers be able to rate their ride, like they can with a typical Uber ride?
Yes, once the trip is over, customers will be prompted to rate their ride.
What kind of cars does Wayve use?
The Wayve fleet consists of all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles to start. As part of the future service in London and other global markets, Wayve and Uber will also introduce riders to the Nissan LEAF vehicle starting in Tokyo later this year.
How many people can ride in a Wayve car?
Wayve’s vehicles currently accommodate up to 4 riders (in any seat but the driver’s seat).
What type of ride do I need to book to be matched with a Wayve vehicle?
Riders who request an UberX, Electric or Comfort will have the opportunity to be matched with a Wayve vehicle. Riders who request UberXL, UberX Share or others not listed above will not be offered a Wayve.
Will riders be charged for the rides?
Yes, riders will pay the UberX, Uber Electric, or Uber Comfort rates when matched with a Wayve vehicle and will receive upfront pricing in the Uber app. If a Wayve vehicle is available to complete the trip, you’ll be notified and will receive the option to ‘confirm’ before the vehicle is dispatched to pick you up.
When will Wayve vehicles be available?
Wayve vehicles will be available for Uber trips 7 days a week.
Where can I travel in a Wayve vehicle?
Wayve vehicles can go anywhere in London, apart from airports.
Do the Wayve cars have child seats?
No. For passengers requiring a car or booster seat, you’ll need to bring your own and secure it in the back seat according to the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Children under the age of 12 cannot sit in the front seat.
Can I ride with an animal?
Assistance dogs are always welcome in Wayve cars. If you’d like to bring other animals or non-assistance dogs, please request an Uber Pet trip. Learn more about our assistance dog policy here.
How do I know the car's mine?
Always check that the licence plate and car make/model match what's shown in the Uber app before entering the car.
Once the Wayve vehicle arrives and you enter, the in-vehicle monitor you'll use to start your ride will display your name.
Can I use the boot?
Yes. You can open the boot manually after unlocking the doors through the Uber app.
Uber for teens is available in London. Will teen accounts be eligible to be matched with a self-driving ride?
No. At this time, teen accounts will not be eligible to be matched with an autonomous vehicle.
Can I ask the driver for assistance during my trip?
Drivers are there for you if you need anything or require any assistance. However, they'll be focused on monitoring the vehicle, so we ask that chatting be kept to a minimum.
Will people with wheelchairs be able to take trips in Wayve vehicles?
Wayve vehicles can take a folding wheelchair in the boot of the car, and the drivers have a duty to provide reasonable assistance getting in and out of the vehicle to people with mobility needs. Riders who require wheelchair accessible vehicles should request an Uber Access vehicle.
What happens if I leave something in the vehicle?
You can contact Uber Support through the Help section of your app, who will help facilitate the return of the item.
What if I don't want to take a trip? How do I say no?
Before a nearby Wayve vehicle is sent, you will receive a notification each time and have the option to accept or switch to a non-AV ride. Simply hit ‘Find another ride’.
What happens if I want to change location mid-trip or end my trip early?
If you need assistance at any time, customer support is accessible in both the Uber app and Wayve’s in-car screens.
