Working Together for Safer Connecticut Roads into 2017
Written byAt a December 30 press event at the Fairfield Theatre Company, we joined Fairfield’s state legislators, the Fairfield Police Department, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to urge residents to act—and ride—responsibly on New Year’s Eve.
We also announced a few new promotions for new and existing Connecticut riders that benefit MADD in their mission to end drunk driving:
- In an ongoing campaign, new riders can sign up for Uber with promo code MADDCT and get $25 off their first Uber ride. For each of these signups, we will donate $5 to MADD Connecticut.
- On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, existing riders could enter a special promo code, and for each Uber ride taken those days, we donated $5 to MADD Connecticut.
The elected officials at the event joined us in driving home the importance of safe rides during the holidays. “This partnership between Uber and MADD is a proven option to make sure our roads are as safe as possible on New Year’s Eve and throughout 2017,” said Sen. Tony Hwang, who represents Easton, Fairfield, Newtown, Weston, and Westport.

Rep. Brenda Kupchick echoed his statements, saying, “I’m happy to stand with MADD to save lives. MADD partnering with Uber makes me hopeful people will choose this safe and easy option. It’s a matter of life and death.” Kupchick represents Fairfield and Southport.
Rep. Jonathan Steinberg, who represents Westport, said, “This is about saving lives. I thank Uber and MADD for coming together and helping make our roads safer.”
Getting people home safely from their celebrations remains important to us, and we are happy to say that our efforts are working: a recent report conjointly conducted by Uber and MADD found that when empowered with more transportation options like Uber, people make responsible choices, resulting in fewer alcohol-related crashes.
MADD’s mission is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking. If you or someone you love has been impacted by drunk or drugged driving, MADD is here to help. Call MADD’s 24-Hour Victim Help Line at 877.MADD.HELP.
