MEET THERESA

Next up on our #WhyIRide series we have Akron rider, Theresa. She has never had a driver’s license and needed a better way to get to work than hopping from bus to bus. Uber makes it possible for her to get to work without spending as much time commuting. She took a few moments to share with us why she rides.

When did you start riding with Uber and how did you hear about us?

I started riding about 2 years ago. My mom was in the hospital and my sister who lives in Minnesota actually told me about Uber. She requested an Uber for me all the way from Minnesota so I could get to the hospital.

What made you start riding with Uber?

I started using Uber pretty regularly because the bus that I took to and from work doesn’t run on Saturdays. I was using Uber to get to the metro and from there took the bus. For almost a year I took three buses to work and three buses home. It took up a lot of time. It ended up being cheaper to Uber all the way home.

How often do you ride?

A few times a week.

Why do you use Uber and how is it helpful to you?

It’s a big time saver, especially if you’re a person that doesn’t drive. Uber takes my travel time from hours to minutes each day. It’s also very affordable and reliable. I’m on a very strict budget and I can always squeeze Uber into it.

What makes you feel safe about riding with Uber?

The fact that Uber runs background checks on all the drivers. I also like that they are on your app; you can track where they are and how long it will take for them to arrive. It’s certainly safer than standing at the bus stop.

What occasions do you use Uber?

Work, shopping, appointments, anywhere I go really.

What is your favorite feature in the app?

My favorite feature is being able to see what the driver looks like and where they are. I also like that I can see when they are approaching and see their license plate number so I know which car I’m looking for.

What is your favorite Uber option (product) and why?

uberX. It’s the only one I use.

What is your favorite place to Uber to?

Work because with Uber it shortens my day.

Anything additional you’d like to share?

For the most part, the drivers are very nice people. I chat with them and I find it to be a great experience, meeting these new people. Uber makes it possible for me to be independent. I use it to go to the grocery store and to help my mother get to doctor’s appointments. Uber has opened so many doors, given me more possibilities, and helped me excel in my business. It has simplified my life—made it easier.
