#WhyIRide—Mary
Written byCar-less? No place to park? Need a ride home from a bar? No matter your reason, having a ride you trust when you need one is an option everyone deserves.
We’ve been asking top riders in the community why they ride and we want to share their stories of Uber-ing around Kentucky.
MEET MARY
Survivor of a brain injury that severely affected her driving ability, Mary, Louisville rider, took a few moments to share with us why she rides.
When did you start riding with Uber and how did you hear about us?
My family has been telling me to use Uber for a long time now, but I began riding with Uber at the end of last year.
What made you start riding with Uber?
I am no longer able to drive because of a traumatic brain injury in 1997. I have a driver that takes me to work Monday-Friday, but if I don’t want to call someone, Uber is easy to get a ride. I used to use it less frequently but now there are a lot of drivers that I like. Plus, Uber is cheaper than paying personal drivers.
How often do you ride?
A couple days per week for the most part, but I use Uber whenever I need to get somewhere now.
Why do you use Uber and how is it helpful to you?
The drivers are always very friendly, professional and helpful as I usually need their assistance due to my poor balance. They can tell I need help and I usually I have a cart with me that I carry all of my stuff in. They always help me with it and help me get settled in the car. I am very impressed with them. I’m a personal trainer & fitness instructor and I use Uber to take me to the classes I teach during the week. I also use Uber to take me to my own health club to work out. Unless I have many stops to make during the day, Uber seems to be the most affordable way for me to get around.
“No longer being able to drive took away my independence but Uber has given that back to me. I can run errands, go shopping—I can do anything I want to do, now, without waiting for someone to take me.”
Uber’s mission is to help people get rides whenever they need, 24/7. It allows people to have more freedom and get hassle-free rides on demand. Thanks to Mary for sharing why she rides! If you have an interesting story to share, send it our way and you could be featured next.
