#WhyIRide—Joshua

We’re continuing our #WhyIRide series with Lexington rider, Joshua. He recently moved to Lexington for a job opportunity with Amazon. “Uber is great though because I don’t know my way around yet. When I’m in an Uber, the drivers always tell me where the best places are,” he said. He took a few moments to share with us why he rides.
When did you start riding with Uber and how did you hear about us?
September of this year. I’ve known about it for quite awhile though. I remember always seeing the logos on cars. That’s when I started wondering what Uber was.
What made you start riding with Uber?
Essentially, the lack of having a car. And they are cheaper than taxis. Once I took my first Uber trip, I realized that it’s the exact opposite of that.
How often do you ride?
At least once a week. But sometimes two or three times a day.
Why do you use Uber and how is it helpful to you?
I’m new to the area and don’t know my way around. A lot of the Uber drivers I’ve had seem to know every side street and every easy way to get around. They’re also really friendly. One time, I had a driver from Cape Town, South Africa. Talk about interesting! She was very cool.
What makes you feel safe about riding with Uber?
Ubers feel safe because the drivers seem to be local people and I guess because they are using their own vehicles. It makes me feel safer and cleaner because there is a mutual respect between riders and drivers.
What occasions do you use Uber?
To and from work and when it’s too far to walk (especially when it’s cold).
What is your favorite feature in the app?
Being able to see where the vehicle is before it comes to pick me up. I can see when there’s a car close by and then know it’s mine when I request it. I love it!
What is your favorite Uber option (product) and why?
uberX. It’s the only one I’ve used.
What is your favorite place to Uber to?
The mall.
Is there anything additional that you’d like to add?
I like being able to send a text to my driver. I was at the mall last week. I came out of the food court and I texted my driver before he got there and told him exactly where I was at the mall. He told me I had a five star rating!
