Transitioning from military to civilian life can be challenging, but at Uber we know that veterans are some of our nation’s most talented and skilled leaders. Just over a year go, we launched UberMILITARY: our program to introduce service members, veterans and military spouses to Uber and empower them as entrepreneurs and small business owners. Since then, nearly 40,000 veterans and members of the military community have joined the Uber platform.

With Uber, you’re the boss, and there is no schedule. Ever. Nearly 90% of our partners say they drive with Uber to be their own boss and set their own schedule and half drive fewer than 10 hours per week.

From veterans looking for flexible part-time work while they go back to school, to reservists looking for work between drills, to military spouses hoping for work, that can follow them on the next move, driving with Uber is a perfect fit.

Meet a few of the veterans and military families in Texas who are driving with Uber to reach their goals.

“I’m a retired, disabled vet. As such I go on base regularly. This also affords me the opportunity to ensure the young folks serving our nation have a safe, reliable way to get home after enjoying our city.
Just because I no longer wear the uniform doesn’t mean I don’t feel a responsibility to my fellow troops. I’m the designated dad, looking out for those entrusted to his care.”

“I enjoy being an Uber Partner knowing I am providing a service to individuals who are having a good time on the town in a safe manner. I was introduced to Uber by my son and the reason I drive is provide extra money for my daughter. I provide her with extra money as long as she keeps her grades up in school.”

“I’ve been driving with Uber since July and have really enjoyed my experience. During my 24-year Army career, I served in Human Resources, a very customer-focused career field. I would do everything I could to help Soldiers obtain whatever they needed for their careers or for their families. Driving with Uber has rekindled that same passion for providing superior customer service by offering my riders an exceptional rider experience. The icing on the cake is the additional income I receive for my family.”

“I started driving with Uber over a year and a half ago through a referral from my wife. As a military veteran, I was looking for a means to not only give back to my local community but also having the ability to supplement my income for my family.
Uber has been a tremendous financial blessing for us. The platform provides flexibility to work around my regular job and gives the opportunity to provide a wonderful experience to network and connect with people looking for safe and reliable rides at a better price.”

“I’m a disabled veteran and I could not find the job that’s fit to me. So I decided to sign up with Uber two months ago. It was an amazing experience to see and talk with great people everyday. Also it’s helped me a lot when I get extra money to pay my bills and take care of my family.”

“I spent 6 years in the military in the 60’s and 70’s as a Naval Aviation Intelligence Officer; some of the best year of my life, and proud to have served. Now retirement has become the best years of my life because Uber has allowed me to keep the motor running, keep the juices flowing, pay for my golf habit, and keeps me from dipping into the IRA so the kids will have something someday.”
