Hearing Douglas sing will give you chills. How he became a singer will make you laugh. “How did I start? Purely to piss off my sister,” Douglas said with a laugh. As a child, he’d hide under the grand piano and mimic her as she practiced singing. He’d hold the high note until she noticed him, and then she’s promptly kick (and lock) him out of the room.

Since then, Douglas has made this “nuisance” his career. He’s performed everything from broadway to afternoon happy hour at the local senior retirement communities in Portland. Having built his career around music, Douglas created American Singer to train singers and actor-singers who want to work on broadway and opera.

Balancing his performing with running his production company and training program keeps Douglas busy. His love for the craft means he’s passionate about seeing his business succeed. “My favorite thing about having my own production company and training program is that the responsibility lies with me. If we fail, it’s on me. If we succeed, that’s also due to my work,” he said.

When Douglas isn’t found juggling his multiple jobs, he’s out at his cabin in Colorado with his wife and two dogs, “Taking my dogs to the beach and watching them play is blissful.” While his life is full of art and music and family, it was his wife that suggested he take on one more thing… driving.

Douglas has been a driver-partner for the past 8 months, and has been filling the travel account so he can take his wife on vacation after their shows are over. His wife and son are also a professional musicians, to say they’re a talented family is an understatement.

If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Douglas, you know that he’s as friendly as they come. It’s no surprise that one of his favorite things about driving with Uber is the people he meets. “Almost everyone I meet is happy to see me. I’m taking them from where they are to where they want to be. It doesn’t get better than that,” Douglas said.
