Uber and Public Transit: Working Hand in Hand in Memphis
Written byUsing MATA is a great way to get where you’re going. For many residents, it’s is an integral part of their morning and evening commutes. However, in so many communities across Memphis, it’s that first and last mile of the daily commute (to and from the bus stop) that remains a challenge. Uber addresses that challenge by filling gaps and completing the first and last mile of your commute, supporting and extending Memphis’ public transportation system. We enable this in two key ways:
- Gaps in public transportation become hubs for Uber. We go where bus routes don’t run.
- We complement public transit, making it easy for people to take advantage of the existing public infrastructure.
This means that people in Memphis can use Uber to get a ride on more than just nights and weekends, but also to commute to school and work, making the city that much more accessible to residents, commuters, and tourists.
To expand that accessibility, we’ve partnered with TransLoc, a leading provider in transit technology to help Memphians get to and from the bus stop with ease, through the TransLoc Rider app. Users can enter their destination to get the best route, one that combines walking, MATA busses and Uber. It’s so seamless, it even requests the Uber ride from within the app. Sign up for the TransLoc Rider app at http://hub.transloc.com/uber
Wherever and whenever you need a ride to or from the bus stop, we’ll be there. Finish your journey by hopping into an uberX, the low-cost way to Uber around Memphis.
