Riding Past One Year In Portland
Written byEarlier this month marked our first Uberversary in Portland! Over the course of the year, we’ve provided tens of thousands of safe, reliable rides all with a tap to a smartphone. On average, Portland riders had their Uber come in just 4 minutes and 10 seconds!
The map below shows all the ground we’ve covered in and around Maine’s largest city. We launched in Portland on October 2, 2014, and then expanded to the nearby beach communities before Memorial Day.
As you can see, Uber users aren’t just riding in the city, but are taking trips to and from places like South Portland, Westbrook, Scarborough and along the coast in communities like Old Orchard Beach.
Let’s take a closer look at the city of Portland—where we’ve been operating the longest, and where trip density looks like one big dark blob. Check out the zoomed in map.
Riders love to use Uber in neighborhoods like the Old Port, Parkside and Munjoy Hill. And it will likely come as no surprise that peak time of demand in Portland is from 8pm to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights, with 24% of trips each week occurring during this time. Riders are using Uber as a safe and responsible way to get to and from Portland’s awesome restaurants and bars.
And another hot spot is the Portland Transportation Center. Whether catching that early morning train, and arriving on an evening bus, Uber is a reliable way to start to finish your travel, and get that extra mile or two that the bus or train doesn’t take you.
As we ride into our second year in and around The Forest City, we want to thank the hundreds of local driver-partners who have ensured Portland riders got home safely after a night out with friends, made their train on time, and got to their job interview without a hitch. We look forward to continuing to move the community—one ride at a time.
