Since uberX first hit the streets of Baltimore in November of 2013, riders throughout Maryland have taken over 8.5 million trips on the platform.

These are trips that help people get home safely from a night out with friends, give them access to parts of the city that were previously underserved, and provide more and more people the ability to safely and reliably get around the city they love. It is our dedicated Uber driver-partners who make these trips possible and keep our city moving.

This week, Uber Maryland recognized driver-partners who have gone above and beyond to ensure rider safety and the highest quality experience. All of these partners demonstrated extraordinary service in their own way, and are among some of the best we have out on the road. They have distinguished themselves with the highest ratings in Baltimore, receiving incredible feedback from their riders, a close-to-perfect rating, and often drive in the late night hours when drunk driving is most prevalent and transportation options are most limited.

Uber is serving a vital need in Baltimore, enabling people to get around their city with more ease and filling the void in communities that desperately needed more options. The introduction of Uber has brought a new alternative to combat drunk driving, flexible work opportunities to help make ends meet, and a greater ability to get to all corners of Baltimore. I applaud the drivers who have played such an incredible role in improving this great city.

-State Senator Bill Ferguson

To help honor these partners, we were excited to have so many community and elected leaders join the event:

  • Senator Bill Ferguson
  • Delegate Antonio Hayes
  • Mothers Against Drunk Driving
  • Greater Baltimore Urban League
  • NAACP
  • Transit Choices
  • National Federation of the Blind
  • Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

In addition to becoming an increasingly integral part of the way people get around and earn an income, we are committed to finding new and creative ways of leveraging our technology to improve the lives and communities of those we serve. We’re proud of each and every one of our driver-partners and appreciate all they do to ensure everyone, everywhere has access to safe, reliable and affordable transportation.

It was a privilege to meet some of the drivers who are helping get folks safely around Baltimore, and to hear directly from them how they’re contributing to improving our communities through extraordinary service. With drunk driving such a serious issue here and across the country, I applaud Uber and its driver-partners for providing safe, reliable rides when needed most.
