There’s no denying that Cambridge is a college town- 32% of Cambridge’s population are students. Being a college town doesn’t mean all of the action happens right around the campuses though! Venture away from the hubs and check out some of our favorite things to do in Cambridge and places to see.

Aside from the standard tours and museums (which you should do), here are some local things to see, do, eat, and drink.

Exploring off the beaten path:

Mount Auburn Cemetery
As weird as it sounds, not only can you see some of the best local fall foliage here, but it is a gorgeous place to spend an afternoon walking around. You can even pay your respects to poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
On the third Thursday of the month, you can see the stars! The Smithsonian Observatory opens to the public the third Thursday of each month and gives you an opportunity to check out the night sky through their telescope.

Bike/rollerblade/dance in the streets on Memorial Drive
On Sundays from May to mid-November, Memorial Drive is closed to auto traffic from 11am to 7pm. That means you can run wild on the streets and practice your unicycle skills without fear of getting hit by a car.

Where to listen to music:

The Middle East
A haven for local bands, The Middle East serves a little bit of everything, including some more nationally recognized artists.

The Sinclair
Another venue that covers all the bases, this venue is a bit bigger than The Middle East to accommodate some bigger acts and tours.

Middlesex lounge
If electronic music and DJs are your thing, this is the place to go. You’ll get local, national, and international DJs coming through here regularly.

If you get thirsty:

The Field
If pool and darts are your forte, head to The Field to play (pun intended). Cash only, but they have an ATM because who carries cash anymore?

Toad
It might be one of the tiniest bars you could go to, but they pour strong drinks, never have a cover, and play some of the best live music around.

Havana Club
This is the place to go to cut loose and move your feet. They offer salsa lessons Fridays and Saturdays- no experience necessary, just be ready to have fun!

Delicious eats:

Pinocchio’s
Want to go somewhere that’s been serving delicious pizzas for 50 years and is open late? This is your spot.

Mr. Bartley’s Burgers
Who doesn’t want to order a “Next President ‘God Help Us’” burger? How about a “Legalize It” one? Iconic burgers at a hole-in-the-wall.

Petsi Pies
Time to indulge your sweet or savory tooth. Their pies and pastries are something to write home about. We’re talking Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pies and Bacon Cheddar Scallion Scones.

Cambridge has a lot to offer, but Uber makes it easy to broaden your horizons and explore more of the Boston area. Check out one of our favorite areas, Fenway-Kenmore.
