Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives in military service to our country. In their memory, we are very proud to spotlight Miami driver-partner Abraham, a Veteran who served in the United States Army.

On top of driving full-time for Uber, Abe is a father of four who owns and operates his own small business. He definitely has his hands full –but driving with Uber has afforded Abe the opportunity to live on his own terms. “Before I was working 80 miles away from my family, which meant it was impossible to always be there for them,” Abe explained.

“Uber gave me the opportunity to live on my own terms—to be available to my kids and to work on my small business too.”

How did you get started driving with Uber?

I was living in NYC and knew that Uber was doing well, so I wanted to get involved. At the time, I was thinking of leaving my job as a car salesman, so I started off driving part-time. I became super enthusiastic and loved it, so I quit my job as a car salesman and started driving full-time.

What does driving with Uber mean to you as a veteran?

Driving with Uber as a veteran means opportunity and freedom. It’s so nice not to be stuck in an office all day and instead have the opportunity to spend time meeting new people. While I was in the army, I lived in a lot of different states and cities, so it’s easy for me to relate to riders from different places.

Would you recommend driving with Uber to other veterans?

Yes, absolutely. I already do!

Do you have any kids?

I have two sons and two daughters. My son Alex is 19 years old and lives in Chicago. My daughter Gabi is 16 years old. I also have a 13 year old son, also named Abe and a 10 year old daughter, Valerie.

Being an Uber driver-partner means that I can be available at anytime for my family. Before driving with Uber, I was working 80 miles away from them – which meant it was impossible to always be there for them.

I see that you have completed over 5,000 trips as a driver-partner! Do you have any favorite stories from your time driving?

Telling people they can listen to their own Spotify music while riding really puts a smile on their faces. Music brings a lot of energy to the rides! And I love meeting new people and building relationships. I have met a lot of people from all over the world as a driver.
