Meet Our Latest Sixth Star Winners: Driver-Partners Who Go Above and Beyond
Written bySarahLast month we expanded our “Sixth Star Award” program internationally to recognize driver-partners in every Uber city for going above and beyond. In just four weeks, we have received over 3000 nominations from riders with stories about how their drivers have made a difference.
Today we are pleased to introduce Uber’s 12 newest Sixth Star Award winners:

Meet Hilda of Miami, Florida:
Hilda is the first partner in Florida to receive the Sixth Star award after helping out a passenger who was in town for an important business meeting but had forgotten a tie in the midst of packing. No stores were open and the meeting was early the next morning, so there was no opportunity to buy one.“Hilda said she would figure out a way to get me a tie. Sure enough, later that night she went home, came back to the hotel and left one of her son’s ties for me at the front desk. I couldn’t believe she went the extra mile for me.” – Aaron

Meet Mohammed of Leeds, United Kingdom:
In the sixth months that he has been driving Mohammad has done a remarkable 2,300 trips and achieved a 4.96 rating. Even more impressive – he is one of the top three Uber partners in the world! What sets him apart?“I take pride in staying at the top amongst partners in Leeds, and I think I get good ratings because I work hard to understand what my customers want. My pro tip – never come to work unhappy. Always have a clean car and a calm attitude and always try your best.”

Meet Sanjay of New Delhi, India:
Sanjay is the first partner in India to be awarded the Sixth Star for aiding during a car accident.“We saw a car accident and four men with terrible injuries, in desperate need of help. One had severe head trauma and needed to be immediately rushed to the nearest hospital. Sanjay didn’t hesitate to help and offered to take him right away. One needs to be saluted for acting so swiftly in the times of an emergency.” – Dilip

Meet Cathie of Denver, Colorado:
Cathie started driving last summer and after 1,200 trips and a 4.97 rating isn’t slowing down.“I love everyone that I drive and I have found that I can relate to almost everyone.” What does she do differently? “I try and find something in common with every single rider, even if it’s a new song on the radio, and I always thank each passenger who gets out of my car.”

Meet Cho of Seoul, South Korea:
Cho started driving with Uber a year ago and has achieved a 4.92 rating for going above and beyond. He is the first partner in South Korea to be awarded the Sixth Star Award. “Driving has been really rewarding for me. From the start of the day to when I go home, seeing my riders arrive home happy and smiling makes my day.” What does he do differently? “I learned foreign greetings like “Bonjour” and “Ni hao” for international passengers. Even just one phrase might make them more comfortable.”

Meet Ofentse of Johannesburg, South Africa:
Ofentse received the Sixth Star for jumping into action after witnessing a hit and run of a teenager.“Oftentse immediately ran to the boy’s assistance and called emergency services and managed to get in touch with his mother. Even after being the first one to the scene, Ofentse didn’t leave until the boy had been safely taken away in an ambulance. He is such an admirable person and courageously took an action many others wouldn’t have.” – Andrea

Meet Glen of Ottawa, Canada:
Glen began driving on the very first day Uber launched in Ottawa and is the first partner in Canada to receive the Sixth Star Award. He has done more than 1,200 trips and achieved a 4.98 rating — an impressive feat as he drives part-time. What is his secret?“I used to be a driver in Royal Canadian Air Force, but I think the trick is treating others like you would be like to be treated.”

Meet Fernando Junior of Belo Horizonte, Brazil:
Fernando Junior was one of the first partners to join Uber when we launched, and during the 9 months he has been driving, Fernando has done more than 1,049 trips and achieved a 4.96 rating. He is the first partner in Brazil to receive the Sixth Star. “I think what makes a difference is my determination and the drive to always improve — I still think I can do so much better,” Fernando said.

Meet Ignacio of Mexico City, Mexico:
Ignacio was awarded the Sixth Star after returning a lost phone to a rider who left it in his car. Though he usually spends Sundays with his family, Ignacio gladly went to the effort to return the phone to the rider on his day off.“I wouldn’t like to be in a situation like that, and if I were, I would want someone to do the same for me,” he said.

Meet David of San Francisco, California:
In the year that he has been driving, David has done more than 4,000 trips and achieved a 4.94 rating.“Why do I drive?” David asks,“50% the money, 50% the fun — and the fun part is the people.”

Meet Mark of Phoenix, Arizona:
Mark was awarded the Sixth Star after helping out a passenger who had just had laser corrective eye surgery. When the rider needed to stop at a pharmacy to drop off his prescription for medication, Mark helped communicate with the pharmacist before making sure he got home safely.“I was in so much pain from my surgery and Mark helped get my prescription processed. I don’t know what I would have done without him and his help.” – Scott

Meet Esteban of Washington, D.C.:
In the 15 months that he has been driving Esteban has done more than 3,800 trips and achieved a 4.93 rating. He considers driving fun and likes to bring a positive attitude everyday. What does he do differently?“I have chargers for all types of phones and wifi for my passengers. They love it!”
