Love Taco – Raymond’s Chicago restaurant dream
Written byRaymond Jones, owner of Love Taco, has a storied career which includes hip-hop artist and comedy writer for TV shows like Key & Peele. Returning to Chicago in 2017 he revisited an earlier passion and opened Mexican restaurant Love Taco in Washington Park.
Also known as ‘Raydio G’ from hip-hop group Hotstylz, the dream to one day open a restaurant started back in college at NIU (Northern Illinois University). Raymond would entertain friends and cook for them in his apartment.
“They would often joke that I should open a Mexican restaurant instead of pursuing a music career. All these years later I decided to take their advice on the restaurant part, and open Love Taco,” said Raymond.
A lot of the inspiration behind the food at Love Taco can be attributed to Raymond’s mother and the time they spent in the kitchen while growing up.
“I picked up plenty of cooking skills along the way from my mother. We would experiment by pairing foods that aren’t normally paired together… that’s how a lot of our signature tacos were created,” said Raymond.
For a new restaurant, Raymond has been pleased with the additional exposure that partnering with UberEATS has given his business.
“UberEATS has given us an opportunity to market to diners, without using ‘old school’ marketing techniques…customers often tell us that without our presence on UberEATS, they wouldn’t know we existed,” said Raymond.
