Since launching in Hawaii a little over a year ago, the uberX ridesharing service has already begun to reshape the Aloha State’s transportation ecosystem. Riders are finding a more reliable and affordable way to connect to their communities, and drivers are benefitting from life-changing income opportunities.

Like other places across the globe, Hawaii is quickly realizing the benefits that ridesharing brings to their communities to include safe, reliable, and affordable transportation options. In 2013, there wasn’t a single law regulating ridesharing. But by the end of 2014, more than 20 jurisdictions had passed permanent legislative frameworks to support and affirm this innovative way to get a ride. By the end of 2015, over 70 US jurisdictions have passed more of these permanent frameworks.

Both the State and the City and County of Honolulu are currently considering legislation that will shape the future of Uber in Hawaii. This is a long process, and nothing happens overnight. As we continue to work closely with the State and the City, we will update both riders and drivers as things progress. If you’d like to help, you can sign up to be an advocate here. Mahalo for all of your support over the years!
