Over a century ago, Anne Rainsford French became the first woman in America to get a driver’s license; today, we celebrate the women driver-partners who play a vital role in making the streets of Houston a better and safer place. Happy International Women’s Day to the women who help shape our world and city every day.

Venniece Robbins is one of the many women who keep Houston moving. A year and a half ago, Venniece was diagnosed with an illness that prevented her from working the hours required of a traditional job. At a friend’s suggestion, she decided to try driving on the Uber platform. The ability to set her own schedule allowed Venniece to focus on her health while still earning an income. Making extra money by helping Houstonians get around the city has become a source of great enjoyment for Venniece—she loves interacting with riders and meeting new people each day!

Driving as an Uber partner helped Venniece and her family in another unexpected way. After seeing the earning potential, her husband also decided to become a partner and the two drafted a plan to pay off all of their credit card debt within a year. The flexibility to drive whenever they want has helped them pursue this goal on their own terms, says Venniece: “We found something that we could see make a meaningful difference in our financial situation.”

With over 2,500 completed trips and nearly a five-star rating, Venniece is one of the most popular and enthusiastic drivers in Houston. Thanks for all that you do to help riders get around safely, Venniece!
