A Salute to Iowa’s UberMilitary Partners

In Iowa, there are around 80 past and present military members that now also partner with Uber. Service members are known for their dedication and work ethic. Our UberMilitary partners have carried on that reputation completing over 16,000 trips in Iowa with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5. We would like to spotlight a few of our top UberMilitary partners and thank them for their service.
Name: Vonnie Stewart-Kai
Service: United States Army (1980-1983)

Fun Fact: Loves mysteries!
Why She Drives: While Vonnie is a marketing specialist, she enjoys driving Uber in her spare time to earn extra income. Her husband also partners with Uber, and with the money they earn they are going on a trip to Jamaica this winter.

Fun Fact: Has 11 grandchildren. When he isn’t driving with Uber, he is spending time with them.
Why He Drives: Richard is a retired bus driver, so he says driving is in his nature. He has what he calls “Uberfever” and loves meeting all kinds of riders in Des Moines. Uber is a way for Richard to help people, while also making extra spending money for himself and his family.

Service: United States Army (1970-1971)

Fun Fact: Is currently in a rock and roll band playing the drums, but also is honored in the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for a previous band.
Why He Drives: Bill learned about Uber while on a trip to Chicago. When Uber came to Des Moines, he thought it was the perfect way to get out of the house as a recent retiree. He also likes that Uber gives him a little extra spending money to play golf.
Uber is proud to partner with many men and women who served our country. Nationally, Uber will be donating 10,000 rides ($125,000) to Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program. Additionally, we have pledged to create earning opportunities for over 50,000 members of the military community through our UberMilitary Program.
