Hope Rides: Uber and Alliance for HOPE International Partner to Help Survivors Access Support
Written byEvery day, survivors of violence face a critical and often invisible barrier to safety: transportation. Today, we’re taking a step forward to change that. Uber is proud to launch Hope Rides, a new partnership with Alliance for HOPE International to help survivors of interpersonal violence reach critical support services.
Through this national initiative, Uber is providing over $250,000 in ride credits to 15 Family Justice Centers (FJCs) in nine states, helping survivors to safely access trauma-informed care, legal assistance, housing resources, and other essential services.
“Hope Rides is more than transportation—it’s a lifeline,” said Tony West, Chief Legal Officer at Uber. “By meeting survivors exactly where they are, it offers a compassionate bridge to safety, shelter, counseling, and legal support. It’s about empowering each person to take that first courageous step toward healing and hope.”
Breaking down barriers to safety
Transportation is one of the most common—but least recognized—barriers for survivors seeking help. Without a safe and reliable way to get to an appointment, court appearance, or shelter, many are left without options.
Family Justice Centers are uniquely positioned to support survivors by offering wraparound services under one roof. From legal support and case management to healthcare and counseling, FJCs provide comprehensive, trauma-informed care in a single location. Many already rely on Uber informally to fill transportation gaps. Hope Rides builds on that need—formalizing the support and enabling broader access.
“Transportation for domestic violence survivors saves lives,” said Casey Gwinn, the President of Alliance for HOPE International, and the visionary behind the Family Justice Center movement in America. “Survivors often don’t seek help because they cannot access the lifesaving services of Family Justice Centers. Uber’s support for no-cost rides for survivors will be the difference between life and death for survivors and their children in 15 Family Justice Center communities in this country.”
A broader commitment to women’s safety
Hope Rides is part of Uber’s ongoing commitment to improving safety for women and vulnerable populations—on and off the platform. From in-app safety features and reporting tools to education campaigns and global partnerships with anti-violence organizations, we continue to invest in technology and partnerships that help create safer outcomes.
This initiative also strengthens our proactive engagement with local communities, policymakers, and advocates. By working hand-in-hand with trusted organizations like Alliance for HOPE, Uber is helping build solutions that meet survivors where they are—literally and figuratively.
