As we enter the holiday season, we want to shine the spotlight on a particular driver-partner whom not only moves us, but spends his free time positively impacting our city and the community.

Meet Will.

When Will isn’t behind the wheel, he’s a passionate volunteer in both Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Year-round he volunteers at the Northern Kentucky Emergency Shelter, serving meals and providing laundry services for those experiencing homelessness. In addition to the Emergency Shelter, Will spends time with the Northern Kentucky Health Department to connect people with free HIV testing. Though he’s retired, during tax season, Will puts his IRS knowledge to use at the Center for Great Neighborhoods where he gives volunteer income tax assistance. Lastly, if he wasn’t busy enough, Will has spent years volunteering as a mentor at Holmes High School. He was matched with a 6th grader four years ago, and will continue to mentor this student through high school graduation.

When asked why he volunteered so much, he replied,volunteer blog

“Well, it’s a combination of things. I come from a very humble background – from the hollers of eastern Kentucky. I was fortunate enough to go to college, get a decent job, make a living, and enjoy retirement. I feel very lucky, and it’s always been my style to pay back and give back. It stems from the teacher in me. I always wanted to be a teacher, and whatever I’m doing, I consider myself a teacher. It’s part of who I am.”

To Will, the best thing about driving with Uber is the ability to be your own boss. It gives him the opportunity to volunteer in the morning and turn the app on for a couple of hours on his way home–or on the weekends, to drive when it fits his schedule.
