In Pennsylvania, alcohol-related motor vehicle deaths exceed the national average by 24%. In an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving, we set up our Uber breathalyzer kiosk in Philly on Thanksgiving Eve — a night when people around the country enjoy catching up with old friends and hitting the town’s haunts. This weekend, we’re bringing it to the South Side of Pittsburgh. Keep a look out for the Uber breathalyzer kiosk on Carson Street, as we continue to encourage Pennsylvanians to opt for a safe ride home.

Jon Growall, President of the South Side Chamber of Commerce, shared his thoughts on the positive impact that Uber has had on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

“Ridesharing options such as Uber have given both South Side residents and visitors confidence that they can come and go from our neighborhood safely while leaving their car at home. Many of us have seen a decrease in wandering patrons after our restaurants and bars close thanks in large part to the Uber option. Uber has been an integral part of our organization’s goal of increasing responsible transportation options to and from the South Side. There is absolutely no excuse to drive in the South Side if you have had too much to drink.”

At Uber, we’re changing the way people think about drinking and driving. Cities that have Uber have seen a 3.6%-5.6% decrease in the number of people killed in cars due to alcohol, according to a 2015 study by Temple University. By providing a reliable ride at the tap of a button — no matter the time or place — Uber is empowering people to make better, safer choices.
