We like to think that Boston is the “Hub of the Universe” all year round but it’s especially true on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Whether you’re heading to the parade, one of the celebratory breakfasts, down to your local, or your buddy’s house in Southie, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Uber want to remind you to make sure you factor safe transportation options into your plans.

“MADD wants you have a safe and enjoyable St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The safest way home is with a non-drinking designated driver. With all of the options available today including rideshare services like Uber, there is no excuse to drink and drive,” said Mary Kate DePamphilis, MADD Massachusetts Program Manager. “As you plan your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, include planning ahead for a safe way home.”

MADD released a study last year that found when people have options, especially those that are just a click away on their smartphones, they are less likely to get behind the wheel intoxicated. In a survey conducted as part of the study, 88 percent of respondents over the age of 21 agree with the statement that “Uber has made it easier for me to avoid driving home when I’ve had too much to drink.”

At Uber, we’re proud to be a safe alternative to drinking and driving every night of the year. This weekend is not only St. Patrick’s Day, it’s also the end of the MBTA’s late night weekend service. In order to help keep your options open and you get home safely and affordably during this transition, we’re offering $5 flat rate uberPOOL trips along the T’s subway lines on weekends from 12:30 to 2:00am through April 19th.
