Whether you’re home with family or visiting friends this holiday season, chances are there will be cause to celebrate. When drinks are involved, keep your travels safe and stress-free by ditching the keys and riding with Uber—because it’s easier to enjoy the festivities when a safe ride home is one tap away.

Drunk driving incidents spike every year during the holiday season. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 945 drunk driving deaths across the country between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve in 2014. Uber and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) CT are teaming up again this year to encourage revelers to always plan for a safe ride home.

“Each year the Hartford Region is impacted by the tragic effects of drunk driving. During our celebration of the holidays we all need a greater awareness of how we can team up to prevent drunk driving. The Hartford Police Department greatly appreciates the collaboration of MADD with Uber and their continued efforts to prevent drunk driving. We will continue to support their message of designating a driver or finding a safe ride home. Happy Holidays….”

Hartford Police Department Chief Brian Foley

“Some of the most dangerous days of the year on our roadways are between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day with more people traveling, an increased number of festivities where alcohol is served, and a rise in drunk driving. Ridesharing services like Uber have proven to help reduce drunk driving incidents, and during the holiday season, we urge all Connecticut residents to make responsible choices that keep our roads safe.”

Executive Director of MADD CT, Janice Margolis

This past Thanksgiving Eve, a night notorious for high incidence of drunk driving, we saw a record number of Uber trips in Connecticut in one night. From 7pm to 2am, when residents are typically coming or going to bars and restaurants to see old friends, we saw 5x as many trips than a typical Wednesday evening in Connecticut.

“As people come together over the next few weeks, it’s important that along with celebrating the holidays, they’re making responsible choices. Knowing that our customers can use Uber to get a safe, reliable ride home at the end of the night gives us great peace of mind during the holidays.”

Executive Director of the Connecticut Restaurant Association, Nicole Griffin
