In 2008, on a snowy night in Paris, Garrett Camp and I had trouble getting a cab. Garrett had this idea, “Why can’t we just tap a button and get a ride?”

Five years ago today, we launched Uber in San Francisco. Now more than 1 million drivers have provided hundreds of millions of rides and that simple question has transformed into a global transportation network available in 311 cities and 58 countries around the world.

We started out trying to make it easier to get around San Francisco. Now we’re working to solve some of the biggest challenges cities face: safer roads, congestion, and economic opportunity. That is a vision made possible by the amazing drivers who are moving their communities every day.

Five years in, our vision for Uber is still evolving. Looking back at where we’ve been is incredible. Where we’re going together is even better.

Thanks for coming along for the ride.
