Meet UberDAD, Isler
Written byMeet Isler: water park lover, all-star dad to Riley and Daunavin, and new driver-partner.
Following his father’s example—bending work to fit around life as a single dad—Isler stumbled upon an opportunity “flexible to his timeframe.”
Focused on his little ones in their mom’s passing, Isler jumped at the opportunity to drive with Uber. To Isler, driving means being there—getting the kids from school, taking Riley to therapy three nights a week, going to Kennywood on weekdays to beat the lines, and never having to take a vacation day when the kids need him.
We checked on Isler after his first few weeks on the road…
Brand new
What do you think so far?
Pretty good so far. The biggest hurdle is learning the streets (Pittsburgh is a complicated place). The more you put in, the more you get out.
Meet and greet
What’s your favorite part about driving?
My favorite part of the gig is meeting so many different types of people. With my schedule, I don’t get a chance to interact with adults other than my dad. Driving is just as much social as it is work.
Small-world moment
What’s your favorite part about driving?
It’s a small world. On my second trip, I picked up a TSS counselor (Therapeutic Support Staff – provide therapy to people with autism or other emotional support needs). Making the world even smaller, the child the TSS counselor works with has similar habits and behaviors to my daughter, Riley.
Summer plans
What do you, Riley, and Daunavin have in store this summer?
We like to do anything outdoorsy: the pool, the water park, the zoo, the playground. Riley is non-verbal, and being outside sparks her up, gets her going.
A BIG UBER THANK YOU TO ISLER AND ALL THE OTHER DADS OUT THERE. CURIOUS ABOUT LIFE ON THE ROAD? LEARN MORE HERE.
