On Friday, November 20, eight of Philly’s most influential women gathered to discuss economic empowerment and offer insights, tips, and stories from their experiences as leaders. Hosted by Uber Philadelphia and moderated by Councilwoman-at-large Blondell Reynolds Brown, the panel discussed a variety of topics ranging from entrepreneurship, to inner strength, to the ability to “have it all.”

Uber East Coast General Manager Meghan Joyce kicked off the session with opening remarks where she shared how lucky she feels to work at a company that enables “women to follow their passions, earn an income or build a career, without the constraints of traditional work opportunities.”

Tahiese Wells, a driver-partner who attended the event, quit her job to start a jewelry company. She is partnering with Uber to help supplement her income while getting the business up and running. “It’s great that you’re making money while making your dream,” panelist and EVP of Wilco Electronics Brigitte Daniel responded to Wells after she shared her story.

The notion of being empowered to pursue one’s dreams was a present theme throughout the conversation. “There are multiple paths to success,” said Tiffany Newmuis, Director of Diversity and Community Engagement for the 2016 Democratic National Convention. “If I hear a ‘no’, I try another approach.”

As part of Uber’s commitment to improving the communities it serves, we were thrilled to be joined by such an amazing group of women, and look forward to keeping the conversation going.
