Jeffrey Takes the Wheel
Written by“Everyone look left – we are NOT doing this tonight” proclaimed Jeffrey to his car full of riders; snickers and remarks of agreement abounded. They were headed towards campus, sitting at a stop light, when Jeffrey noticed a girl hanging out of a cab, less-than gracefully spewing the contents of her last meal down the side of the car. This is one of many stories Jeffrey has to share since he began driving with Uber last spring.
Hailing from Homer, OH, Jeffrey enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1993 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1997. His time in the Marine Corps provided him with adrenaline-inducing experiences like parachuting out of planes, fast-roping out of helicopters, engaging in recapture simulations with Army and Navy counterparts, and competing in physical fitness tests with his fellow training class, to name a few. Jeffrey’s military background served as an outlet for him to engage in physically challenging scenarios and provided him the opportunity to serve and give back to our country.
He was immediately attracted to the Uber platform and the ability to be his own boss, meet new people, and make his own hours. The flexibility of the role allows him to drive when he wants, making sure he has time to work, work out and spend time with his family, all while maintaining a 4.88 rating on the system. In addition, driving on the Uber platform has allowed Jeffrey to use his earnings to do some of the things he loves, like enter competitive races that support the veteran community.
Jeffrey is no stranger to obstacle course racing, known as OCRs, like the Tough Mudder, BattleFrog and Spartan Races – all of which provide support to veteran organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project. In fact, his ten year old son is also an avid obstacle course competitor, participating with his dad whenever he can. When Jeffrey isn’t on the road, you can find him training with his OCR team for his next race or enjoying a well penned autobiography.
UberMILITARY was launched in September 2014, with the pledge to recruit 50,000 members of the military community to the Uber platform. Learn more about our commitment to men and women service members here!
