Generative AI Features at Uber
At Uber, we’re adding generative AI (GenAI) to a number of our product experiences with the goal of making our products and services better and easier to use. Early examples include GenAI powered customer support assistants to help earners receive real-time responses to questions in our help center and GenAI search and images in our delivery products ,among others. Our GenAI features may not be available in your country and/ or language.
We’re committed to incorporating GenAI features into our products responsibly so we’ll watch how people use them, how our products respond, and expand our features as we learn more. We’ll let you know when a feature is powered by GenAI and we may also ask for your feedback along the way. Your feedback, including information about how you interact with these features, will be used in accordance with our Feedback policy and may help improve the quality of future suggestions.
GenAI is a relatively new technology. We’ll work to improve and evolve our GenAI features including by implementing additional controls designed to enhance the accuracy and reliability of the response they provide. However, like any new technology, GenAI can make mistakes and provide misleading, outdated or incorrect information. This includes responses that do not reflect Uber’s views, policies or accurately reflect our relationship with our users. Where underlying models are trained on copyrighted or otherwise protected content their output may contain the intellectual property of others.
Our GenAI features are not specifically trained to provide legal, financial, medical or nutritional advice and shouldn’t be relied upon for these purposes. You should always independently check answers provided by GenAI features before relying on any output.
If you’re using GenAI features you should also keep in mind that–
- The responses and suggestions provided by chatbots are only for reference purposes.
- Product information used to generate responses may not be current or complete. Please review packaging to confirm any information relating to product safety, nutrition, or ingredients (including allergen information).
- Responses or information given are not a substitute for medical advice and shouldn’t be relied upon for making health-related decisions. Please consult a doctor or qualified healthcare provider for medical advice.
- Dietary or nutritional information is provided for reference only. Please consult with a nutritionist or other professional to ensure the products are suitable for your individual circumstances.
- Pricing information provided or used to generate responses is an estimate and excludes taxes, service fees and promotions. Please refer to the checkout page for the most accurate information.
- Information used to generate responses and recommendations may vary depending on actual market conditions such as delivery time, how busy the store is, order size, routes, earner availability, and other factors.
Our public-facing GenAI features may be developed internally at Uber (often using open source software) or powered by a third party, such as Google, Open AI, or Meta. Item descriptions on some restaurant menus, for example, may have been Built with Meta Llama 3. Information you input when using our GenAI features, along with additional context about your request, may be shared with such third parties in order to provide the responses you request. As discussed above, your inputs or queries may be used to further train and improve our products, but will not be used to separately train other third party models. In addition, you should always take care with any personal information you share, and avoid inputting confidential or sensitive information when using these features.
