Home Currency Pricing - Terms & Conditions
Uber’s Home Currency Pricing allows you to continue to be billed in your Preferred Currency when you are traveling abroad. “Preferred Currency” refers to the currency you have selected for billing of services offered on the Uber platform. If you use services offered on the Uber platform in a location in which the currency differs from your credit card issuing currency or the currency associated with your payment method, you may opt into Home Currency Pricing and the full amount of your trip fare will be converted and billed to your payment method in your Preferred Currency.
To opt in to the Home Currency Pricing, select your Preferred Currency in your account profile. You can change your Preferred Currency at any time by logging on to the Uber app and navigating to the ‘preferred currency’ settings in your wallet. Your updated preferences will apply on subsequent Uber rides. If you do not select a Preferred Currency, we will not convert your trip fare and you will be charged in the currency of the location (“Local Currency”); in which case your payment method provider will perform the currency conversion and the converted amount will be provided on your statement from your payment method provider.
Use of Home Currency Pricing will be subject to a currency conversion fee equal to 1.5% of the Local Currency value of the total trip fare (including all applicable taxes and fees as required by law) (“Conversion Fee”). This Conversion Fee will not be assessed on any tip payments. By way of example: If you are traveling to the U.S from Canada and select CAD as your Preferred Currency and the total trip fare in the Local Currency equals $10 USD and the exchange rate applied is 1USD = 1.2CAD, the Conversion Fee will be calculated as follows:
Conversion Fee in Local Currency: $10USD x 1.5% = 0.15 USD
Conversion Fee in Preferred Currency: 0.15 USD x 1.2 = 0.18 CAD
Preferred Currency Trip Fare: $10USD x 1.2 = $12 CAD
$12 CAD Trip Fare
$0.18 CAD Conversion Fee
$12.18CAD - Total Cost
The exchange rate applied to your total amount is based on rates provided by Barclays Bank. The exchange rate will be displayed in your price estimate upon booking.
You will receive a receipt at the end of your trip with all charges (including the Conversion Fee) outlined in the foreign currency of the trip as well as your preferred currency; and in the regions where required, the relevant euro foreign exchange reference rates issued by the European Central Bank.
Your bank or credit card company may impose additional fees, which may increase the overall cost of your purchase. The Conversion Fee assessed by Uber will apply even if your payment method does not charge a foreign transaction fee. Please refer to your payment method’s applicable terms and conditions or contact your payment method provider to learn more about fees that may apply to foreign transactions. Uber does not represent or guarantee that utilizing Home Currency Pricing will provide any cost savings over using your payment method provider’s currency conversion process.
Home Currency Pricing is available for Uber rides only, and cannot be used for any other Uber product or services at this time. Currently, Home Currency Pricing can only be used in supported countries and currencies.
Uber reserves the right to amend or cancel Home Currency Pricing at any time. Your continued use of Home Currency Pricing will indicate your acceptance of any such amendment.
