Payments

1. What is Uber’s role in relation to payments made via the Uber Apps?

Where you pay via the Uber Apps using a digital payment method, Uber’s role is to act as the limited payment collection agent of the Platform Earner, this means that Uber has been appointed by the Platform Earner to collect the digital payments made by you as a User via the app and subsequently remit such payments (less any agreed amounts) to the Platform Earner.

2. Why do I see my trip as a foreign card transaction?

When you book a trip via the Uber App or make an order with a merchant via the Uber Eats App you are contracting with the applicable local third party transportation services providers (drivers or fleets) or third party merchant, as applicable, (“Platform Earner”) to receive the requested transportation service or Eats orders.

3. International payment processing

In discharging its role to the Platform Earner as limited payment collection agent, and where permitted by local law Uber may process transactions internationally utilising Uber’s relationships with its international payment processing and banking partners.

As a result, the payment confirmation of your card issuing financial institution (such as your bank) may show your payment transaction (in messaging and statements) as an international transaction via an Uber affiliate and your card issuing financial institution may charge you additional fees, over which Uber has no control.

4. Disclosure and consent

In accordance with the Rider and Eater terms, each time you pay for goods or services (provided to you by independent third parties) using a digital payment method saved to your Wallet, you acknowledge and agree that your payment transaction may be processed internationally and that you may be charged additional fees and charges from your card issuing financial institution for such international processing.

5. Does Uber charge me for using a digital payment method to pay for a transaction via the Uber Apps?

No, currently Uber does not charge you as a User for paying for transactions using a digital payment method. However, your card issuing financial institution may impose charges on you.

6. What is Payment Pre Authorization?

When you order something or book a service through the Uber apps, Uber or its payment partners check with your bank (or payment method issuer) to make sure your payment method is valid and you have enough money. Your bank then "holds" or "reserves" that money until the transaction is complete or the hold expires. You might see this as a "pending" or "processing" charge on your bank statements or messages. This held amount is just an estimate and not the actual charge. Uber only processes the real payment after your order or trip is finished. Uber doesn't control how long your bank (or payment method issuer) holds these funds, so if you have questions about pre-authorization holds, please contact your bank (or payment method issuer) directly.
