Document Requirements for Drivers

To drive with Uber Black or Uber Taxi in Japan, drivers need to have permission for taxi or hire operations.

If you have permission, all you need to do is sign up, get activated and start driving! In order to get activated, you will need to submit the required documents.

Before submitting all documents, please make sure:

(1) Documents have not expired, (2) Photos include four corners of each document and are not blurred.

Make sure all required details are clearly visible

Ensure your document contains all required details before uploading. The entire document should be clearly visible.

Upload your driver's licence first

This will speed up the approval process when we need to cross-check your licence with other documents.

Original documents only

We do not accept photocopied documents, so please make sure you only upload original documents.

General passenger car transportation business certificate

Please take a photo of your General passenger car transportation business certificate.

Before submitting all documents, please make sure that:

  • The photo is not blurry and all the details are clearly seen.

*If you have private taxi license, you can upload taxi crew card instead of authorization for taxi and hire operation.

Vehicle inspection certificate

Please take a photo of Vehicle inspection certificate.

Before submitting all documents, please make sure that:

  • Documents have not expired.
  • The type of Vehicle written in documents is business vehicle, not private vehicle
  • The photo is not blurry and all the details are clearly seen.

Driver License (Class 2 License)

Please take a photo of your Driver licence (class 2 license).

  • Make sure the photo is not blurry and all the details are clearly seen.
  • Documents have not expired.

Profile Photo

Please upload a profile photo.

  • Must be a forward-facing, centered photo including the driver's full face and top of shoulders, with no sunglasses
  • Must be a photo only of the driver with no other subject in the frame, well-lit, and in focus. It cannot be a driver's license photo or other printed photograph
