Cash deliveries is available

Uber Eats users are now able to pay for their orders in cash. This means that you may be accepting cash on delivery, providing change as necessary, and receiving part of your earnings via the cash you collect.

We believe this additional payment option will result in more orders on Uber Eats, which means you may be able to make more deliveries and therefore, potentially increase your earnings.

How cash deliveries work

1. Accept request

Accept delivery request as usual. Once on the way to customer, the green icon will appear on the trip detail screen to let you know that you’ll be collecting cash from the delivery recipient.

2. Collect cash

At dropoff, “Collect cash” button will appear at the bottom of the screen prompting you with how much cash you need to collect from user. When you collect cash from the delivery recipient, you need to be ready to provide the change.

3. Track earnings

You will keep all of the cash. We will deduct the money owed to the restaurant and Uber via return payment methods (as described below). You can keep track of your cash and non-cash earnings in Transaction Activity screen in the Driver App.

Return payment methods

Every time you complete a cash trip, you may collect cash in excess of what you actually earned on that trip. For instance, for a 2000 JPY order, you will collect 2000 JPY in cash from the customer upon delivery. Assuming your earnings from this delivery is 800 JPY, you have collected 1200 JPY in excess of what you earned. Therefore, you need to settle this balance with Uber.

At the end of your weekly payment cycle, we will calculate how much you have earned from cash and non-cash trips, and how much needs to be returned to Uber and the restaurant partners.

We will attempt settling the balance in two steps.

Step 1: Non-cash Earnings Withholding

We will try to withhold the outstanding amount from your non-cash earnings at the end of the payment cycle, and finish by posting net earnings to your bank account. In case when outstanding amount was greater than your non-cash earnings, we will process to the Step 2.

Step 2: Credit card collection

We will attempt to charge your credit or debit card registered in the partner app to settle the arrears amount.

To be able to receive cash deliveries, you need to register your credit / debit card information in Uber Driver App.

How to authorize Uber to charge payments on your credit / debit card

  • Open the Uber Driver app and tap into the Account section
  • Then tap on Payment
  • In the Payment to Uber section you’ll see an option to add a collection method
  • Select “Add a collection method” and follow the prompts to add your credit / debit card

Reminder: carry change

To help deliveries run smoothly, we recommend always having change for 10,000 yen bill on hand to provide to the delivery recipient.

If you are short of change between the deliveries, you can choose to temporarily opt-out from cash deliveries for breaking the change.
