At Uber, we believe in mobility for everyone. Introducing UberAccess – our wheelchair accessible vehicles, powered by Mphasis in Bengaluru. These are special cars equipped with a ramp or a hydraulic lift for riders who are on wheelchairs and need additional assistance.

Further, to ensure that the experience is as seamless as possible, the cars are only driven by driver-partners trained in disability etiquettes.

  • Q: What kind of help can I expect from an UberAccess driver-partner? Have they undergone any special training?

    A: UberAccess driver-partners are top-rated partners who have received comprehensive in-person training from DEOC (a social enterprise that promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities). The training includes going through accessibility exercises, demonstrations on how to fold and unfold wheelchairs and on how to guide people with visual impairments. These driver-partners also have access to special learning modules to further their knowledge in this area.

    Q: Can I request an UberAccess ride for a family member/friend?

    A: Absolutely. Simply set your pickup location to your family member/friend’s pickup spot. Request an UberAccess and then get in touch with your driver-partner through the app to let them know they will be picking up someone else. You can then share your ETA with your family member/friend so they can track the driver partner’s location.

    Q: How does insurance work?

    A: In the event of an accident during an UberAccess trip, third parties (which includes the rider at the time of the accident) are covered under commercial insurance.

    Q: What is the coverage zone for UberAccess?

    A: Coverage will change in real time based on the availability of driver partners. You can open your app to check the availability of UberAccess at any point in time.

    Q: I have feedback on the UberAccess product. How do I share it?

    A: Be sure to leave feedback in the app after the ride. We’ll also be reaching out to gather feedback. We’re always looking to improve our products and your opinion matters to us.

    Q: Will I be able to bring additional riders on the trip with me?

    A: UberAccess rides will be able to accommodate a total of 4 riders, so yes, you can bring 3 other people along for the ride. We don’t recommend more than one rider who has a wheelchair at a time.

    Q: Are there any UberAccess vehicles that do UberPool?

    A: Not at this time, no.

    Q: What happens if UberAccess is not available?

    A: Availability of rides is displayed in real time. If you don’t see an UberAccess vehicle on the map, check back in a few minutes.

    Q: If I live in an apartment, how will the driver partner know how to get into my building?

    A: UberAccess is a door-to-door service but this does not extend past the front door of your home or building lobby.
